carbon fiber trouble
OK guys before i take it down to the body shop in town i wanted to know if anyone knows anything i can do before i spend some cash i dont need to. I traded my bb hood for jenifers carbon fiber on she had a body shop sand it down a few times, so from what i hear i need to wet sand it down and then clear it or will it still leave the white haze, on it. i dont have any pics of it yet but if needed i can probably post some.

If its a complete hood you shouldn't be sanding it. Secondly you do not want to deal with sanding anything carbon fiber. It's just like sanding fiber glass and more trouble than you truly want to deal with. In fact its just carbon impregnated fiber glass if you want to get technical. Unless your trying to paint it for some god awful reason you shouldn't be sanding anything carbon fiber.

jen is a tulsa member its a a TSC hood and the body shop told her it needed to be sanded down and re clear coated. Ivbeen told by a body shop it should be wet sanded and re cleared, so i googled it and was told to just use scratch X and then wax the hell out of it

if the clear coat has started to go on it (as is VERY typical of almost all CF parts out there for our cars) then you should consider getting it re-cleared. It's the only real way of fixing the issue instead of trying to just mask it with polish.

if your going to have it done, let someone else sand and coat it. A lot of carbon fiber hoods are fiberglass cores with just a couple sheets layered over. Let a body shop do it and save yourself some headache.
