Cargo Net Install Instructions?
#2
Having trouble with the bottom hooks? It's a mystifying design. I HAD the instructions. They didn't help. I gave up on the official instructions and came up with an alternative

Some of the posts mention where to find the actual instructions. You may find them more helpful than I did.

RX8 Cargo Net Instllation Option
I appreciated the posts to help install the RX 8 Cargo Net. I was able to pick up a used cargo net off ebay for $5 and didn't have an installation kit. I also didn't want to wait to order and pay for the shipping cost. I live miles away from the closest Mazda dealership, so I was looking for a convenient option that I could do immediately.
I was able to find an option that will allow the user to install and uninstall the net in seconds and make sure that the net hooks don't scratch or get in the way of golf bags, suitcases, or anything else that you carry in the trunk.
I went to Walmart and purchased a Value Assortment Anchors pack. It has 64 pieces and is marked on the package "9303". It has 64 pieces that the buyer can use to attach pictures to a wall with anchors, screws, and hooks. It cost less than $2.
I opened the package and used four of the #10 - #14 achors in the bottom left hand section of the package. I used four washers that I had and put the anchors through them so that they helped the anchor to not pull through the plastic lining of the trunk. You don't have to have the washers, but in my case it just made the anchors fit very snugly and tight in the original holes for the fasteners. I pushed them in with my thumb and then gave them a slight tap with a hammer to set them in. Then I threaded a #10 one inch wood screw through one of the picture hooks that was in the bottom right hand section of the 9303 Walmart package. I screwed the one inch wood screw, with the picture hanger on it, into the anchor until it was almost tight, then I held the picture hanger in the place that I wanted it to be, so that I could attach the cargo net easily. The new hook and screw fit very nicely in the recessed section where the original fastener was uninstalled. It seems to stick out far enough to easily hook the cargo net into and yet is out of the way of anything that you might choose to carry in the trunk. I just happened to have the four washers and the four 1 inch screws in my stash of extra bolts and screws in my garage, but installation took me less than 5 minutes. It actually took me longer to find a small screw driver in my tools to help uninstall the original fasterners from the trunk liner than it did to install the entire cargo net holder.
Sorry, I have pictures but don't know how to upload them. Sorry, I am new to the forum. If you want to let me know and I will email them or if I figure out how to upload, I will do it.
