Catalyst removal problems?

Im thinking of removing my catalyst and making a custom manifold / pipe insted all the way from the engine to where the cat use to end.

Besides giving me a warning light in my dash will this hurt the engine in any way? =)

No, many have done this. There are pipes avalable with resonators to cut down the noise a little. In addition, if you get the Cobb Accessport (European version) you can not only turn off that light, but have the ability to tune the ecu. They are available from Mazdamaniac.com & RaceRoots.com

Its just a device that plug into your obd2 port and reflashes the ECU. And yes, if adjusted for accordingly the map that you flash onto the stock ECU can disable the CEL.

You should check local laws, and how they're enforced, before removing the cat. In the US it's illegal, and there are regions that do annual emissions inspections.

Disabling a pollution control device is a Federal offense, $10,000 fine, either for you or for them.

You can risk it, they won't.

Leave the Cobb plugged in and the CEL will be masked until you unplug the Cobb.

No, once you reflash the ecu with the cobb accessport the CEL will be disabled from the ECU... there will be no need to drive around with the AP plugged in...

Once the ECU is flashed the CEL wont come back, period... i know this because i have one, and i have a midpipe and my air pump removed and BOTH CEL's deleted... In my state they do yearly emissions testing... ive passed everytime without a problem... the only time i would have a hard time is if they did a visual check..

Search for a 'Midpipe' there a lot out there... and many companies make them

good luck

Your engine won't have a problem, but you will create global warming unlike the Icelandic Volcano.

The world will get so hot the ice bergs will melt.
