Catalytic converter warranty question

Does anyone know if having a CAI would cause issues with getting a Mazda Dealership to make good on a catalytic converter warranty? Mine went bad to the point of when I removed it, pieces of honey comb came falling out, and ofcourse a CEL. Any help would be appreciated, Thx.

It shouldn't. Even tho the dealer gets reimbursed by Mazda for warranty work, some seem to want to blame any mod they find to avoid warranty repairs.

there are a few ways around this, call a dealership you do NOT plan on going to and ask them if this would affect the warrenty. or go to your dealership, if they deny you leave, go stock, and go to another dealership. worst case, they argue you. but the burdon of proof is on them, while at the same time you need to have a good argument to hold your case. other wise a dealership will walk all over you. a mod as simple as an air intake should in no way affect the rate of exhaust flow so you should be set. and besides, the cat is a part under the emissions catagory which is under federal regulation which puts a damper on mazda. mazda know the cat is a normal failing point on an rx8, if they argue you, you shouldnt let them work on your car anyways.

im getting my cat replaced in a few days under warranty cause mine went bad, i can't speak out of facts because my car is stock but this is more the less common knowledge

Doesnt look like its gonna work out in my favor. Called the dealership and they want me to bring it in for them to look at, obviously, and take pictures to send to mazda to determine if it was altered in anyway. Told them I took the catpipe down to see what was rattling and in the process dumped out the broken honeycomb, all of it. Had to to break up some of the larger pieces to get them out because I didnt want them clog anything. They didnt sound to happy that I even removed the pipe myself but I wasnt aware of the 8yr/80000mi warranty at the time either. Seems like theyre gonna think I gutted the thing on purpose. Great. If anyone knows a good replacement or where to get a used one that would pass emissions in PA, please let me know. Did some searching on the site but didnt see much that was a definite. Thx ahead of time.
