Question CEL Code 1443

Hey guys I have a CEL code #1443 which is an Evap small leak. Does anyone know what I need to replace to fix this? I can't find much info if anything on this code here? I had the code cleared, but it's back, so I know something needs to be replaced. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

That's not the usual code for a small evap leak (sure it's 1443 and not something like 0443?), but it's probably just the gas cap. That's covered by MSP13 - free new gas cap even if out of warranty if your car is in the VIN range. I had 0455, which is a large leak and has more dire possibilities, but it was just the cap.

Make sure you tighten the cap after fueling - turn it more than just a few clicks past snug.

The evap leak codes are somewhat unique in that they first come on as soon as you start the car, rather than while driving. Good clue if you don't have a code reader.

Beat me to it this morning.
Guessing gas cap as well, but OP needs to get a compatible scanner.

As a matter of fact, yes the code did come on during startup, not while driving. When I had the code reset at a shop, he told me it probably was the gas cap, but I mean I've had this code on and off for like 8 months. Problem is I never resolved it because I was off at school and only drove my car during breaks because I left it at home.

Anyways, I copied down the code directly onto my iPhone right when the guy reader it off his OBDII reader and he said code #1443 small evap leak.

So you guys think I can just go to my local Mazda dealer, show them the service bulletin, and get a replacement gas cap?

You're slowing down. Or maybe you just have a life.

Worked for me. In fact, if your car is within the VIN range and you bring it in for any kind of service, they're supposed to do it without you even asking.

If you're not in the VIN range, or it's already been done, gas cap is not a high dollar item.

^^Yeah exactly. I don't mind paying for it, as long as that fixes my issue. Lol.
