Took me all of 30 seconds!
You CANNOT see anything by looking at the cap, you need a known good one to test it. It appears to be a VERY cheap part in the US. Go and grab one (or if you know someone with an 8 do a swap).

I have the P0456 code on too. It came on a few months back, right after I put in a new battery. It went away for maybe 2 weeks, and is back now. I bought a new gas cap, a standard one for the car from autozone. The guy said usually lights clear after 30 miles... mine hasn't. I also read something about 3 starts/stops to clear the mazda light. Anyone have any clues on how to clear the light, and if I need the actual mazda gas cap or if the generic one from autozone is ok?
I'm also wondering if it has something to do with putting in a new battery. In my looking (I forget where I found it now), I saw something about the vacuum line sensors and the battery.

Can this code be anyway related to the cat? I recently installed a AP midpipe and a few days later got a CEL. I suspected it was the typical cat code but i got p0456 instead and cleared it. It came back today. Should I just get a new gas cap. Or is the midpipe causing this cel.

if the car failed the test the light will be on right from start up, and if it passes the next test it should turn off.
Mazda part number is FE02-42-250B, list is $25ish
