CEL Question

Today my CEL started flashing. It stopped shortly afterward. so I was curous as to what it could be/been.

Could hitting the rev limiter cause it to flash?

If you want the 'circumstances' let me know and I'll pm you any info that might help.

I'm not too worried since I find the Renesis to be pretty robust and the light went off. But I was wondering if anybody experienced this same thing. i thought it was kind of odd that it was flashing.

If it happened while you were accelerating to a high rev it was probably a random misfire. You can take the car to a dealer and have them read the pending error code(s). If it was a misfire they will likely replace the spark plugs and send you on your way.

If it was just a random misfire would I really need to get the spark plugs replaced?

Careful....

The only time I have seen the flashing CEL is if you start off a little too agressively, while the engine is cold. There is a lower rev limit when the motor is stone-cold, and this can cause a "blinky".

IF it was a misfire, and IF it was caused by a fouled or failed spark plug, the answer is yes. Of course, you won't know what caised the CEL until you or a tech pull the error codes. It seems that the initial dealer repair technique for a misfire is to replace the plugs.

I just had mine come on and the dealer ship guy said. 95% of cel lights hes seen were gas related.. maybe gas cap not on tight defective gas cap.. for some reason mine had a crack in it. which i didnt know and they replaced it.. so i guess mine fell in that cat. he was talking about.. he says that if its gas related it will reset its self 4-7 days.. fyi...

So I guess fuel could have been it. That would explain why it went away so quick and hasn't come back on. I think I might just see how it goes for the next day or so. I might even test it by giving it a little more push on the way home today.

What he said was to me was a vapor lock leakage.. that was due to my gas cap that had the crack.... he did say it would reset it self.. good luck with it..
