Center Console Crackle
#26
i have 7300 miles and everything rattles on my car. mazda quality is just what it is... lol. (i'll refrain from the profanities.)
the worst is that even my rear deck rattles too. but, apparently a lot of guys have this issue. (ghost said the dealer even replaced his rear windshield but that didn't fix it.) i've basically given up and just live with all the noise.
sorry to hear about your problems.

It's not the motor mounts. The car is an 07 with 11k miles. It's the center console/cup holder area (not the center stack with the ***** and stereo). The thin plastic sounds loosely secured or thinly made and it crackles/creaks when I drive the car.
Poster Above- Yeah, everything in my car rattles too. I'm learning to live with it, but I want to do everything I can to alleviate the most egregious noises. The center console is by far the worst. I had a door panel noise right by my ear but I fixed that (for now). There seem to be some loose parts behind my stereo (wiring probably) that bounce around and rattle. And now there's a tinny rattle coming from somewhere in the glove compartment.
I've never had a car that rattles so much, especially not a Japanese one. I understand that it's a light sports car, but that's no excuse. I'm going to disassemble the center console tonight, tighten everything up and spray the snaps with silicone. Hopefully that'll help. I've already fixed 3-4 major rattles, this and the mirror are left before the next one pops up. I'd like to get a few months of quiet driving at least! I'll report my results this weekend.
I know others have this issue.

are the slider tabs still in place on the arm rest slider door.
There are small plastic tabs, that if they are missing will cause the arm rest slider to rattle.
The other thing that comes to mind is the seat rubbing, as the GT has leather and vinyl seats, while my 06 touring has zero rattles with its cloth seats.

I wish it were that simple.
Is yours an Auto?
I actually fixed part of the problem. I disassembled the center console and sprayed all of the plastic tabs/snaps with silicone spray. Everything I sprayed is much quieter now. I didn't take apart the back section, so now the sounds I hear are coming from there. I assume the plastic tabs are just rubbing against the tab holders. I'm pretty pleased this first effort had a positive result.
Sometime this week I'm going to take the whole damn thing apart and spray it all down, I think this will solve the problem.
