Changing spark-plugs
According to the user manual, I'm supposed to change out the old spark plugs at the 35k miles which is fast approaching on my 8.
How different/difficult is it to DIY as compared to the regular piston engine? Anything in particular that I should look out for or any special tools that I'll need for the job?
As for the spark plugs, should I buy the the OEM plugs from the Mazda dealers or are there better/cheaper alternatives out there? Btw, do we need 4 plugs for our engine??

there are great DIY's on the rx8club. I would buy the stock plugs but do not buy them from the dealership. Either www.amazon.com or www.autopartswarehouse.com

Buy the plugs from BHR. I believe they are $80 shipped regular price and $72 shipped if you buy their coils. Awesome price and top notch service.

Buy the normal stock spark plugs(four total) recommended for the RX8 nothing with less performance and buy them anywhere but the dealership you will always find them cheaper. As for difficulty it would help you you have very small hands! But if you don't a normal socket tool set will work with different size extensions and of course the right size sparkplug socket....take the driver side wheel off and look for the rubber flap and move it out of the way hope this helps. (having a 13/16 open ended boxed end wrench will help also)

Be aware that the trailing and leading plugs are different types with different part numbers. You need 2 of each and they need to be installed in the proper locations. The OEM plugs are as good as it gets but DO NOT purchase from dealer unless you enjoy being ripped off. Easiest way is to remove driver's side tire and use a few feet of extensions. A "wobble" extension helps also. Start to finish 15 minutes. Don't forget the anti-seize and torque wrench.
