Check Engine light suggestions!

Hey guys I just bought a 2004 rx8 with 33k miles on it last week, and my check engine light came on about 5 days after I bought it. I have to get an emissions test to get my plates, so I went to the dealership and they couldn't run the test or look at my car till this Friday. I went to autozone and i got the code

Troubleshooting P0456
Control system leak detected-very small leak

Probable Cause
Faulty Fuel Cap
Canister Faulty
Purge Valve solenoid Faulty
Damaged/Leaking Evap hose
Faulty Evap leak detection pump

I have two days before the dealer can check out my car. Any suggestions how to check or fix this myself. And are these any major problems I should be worried about?? Thanks for the help in advance!

Loose gascap.

Reset with a code resetter, then it will go away after two or three drive cycles (start, warm up, drive, cooldown)

Cheapo resetter, $33

Code reader and resetter, with data cd, $66,

Not having to rely on a Mazda dealer - priceless!

Ebay, Amazon, PepBoyz. Best tool a new RX-8 owner can have.

Go to a major auto parts chain store. They have code readers and will reset it for you for free.
Sorry, I see you've already been to Auto Zone.

Yep, guessing gas cap as well. Did you put gas in it within those 5 days?
Once code is reset(Autozone will do it for free), when putting gas in, make sure you turn the gas cap so that it clicks about 5 times.

+1 million on the code reader/resetter.

Guess you could disconnect thte battery for twenty minutes as well to reset after clicking the gas cap, but since you don't seem real good with cars(no offense), I'd rather you NOT do the battery disconnect.

Replace the gas cap with new one. Same thing happened to me. Found out later it's a very common problem.

If it's the gas cap, that's a freebie from Mazda. MSP13.

Point was....we don't know you at all and there have been numerous occasions that the battery was re-connected backwards..which if you are lucky only blows the 120A main fuse. If not, you fry all sorts of things!
