Are check engine lights stored even if you clear them?
Question,
If you pull the negative terminal and it clears the CEL does the PCM still store the CEL in it's history?
Basically if I clear the CEL by disconnected the battery terminal and take it to the dealer will they still be able to see that I threw a code if they hook it up to the scanner?
My SRT did that for certain codes.
Thanks all.

yes thats part of the obdii emssions stuff. it reports how long since the dtc was cleared for emissions testing.
once the codes arecleared they are cleared. however depending on the root cause it could re occur or throw a pending again again by the time you get tot the delaer. depends on what test caused the dtc and how often the test is run

There are some faults you can't clear. DSC fault codes are stored in the HU/CM. They won't be cleared by disconnecting the battery. The dealer needs to clear them. Those of you who are in the habit of holding the DSC Off switch for seven seconds should be aware of that.....there may be insurance implications in the event of an accident. Unlikely, I know.....
DSC faults won't bring up a CEL, BTW.
