Cleaning the MS CAI

How do you change/clean the MS CAI intake filter? Do I have to remove the bumper each time to do this? and how often should one do this?

for cleaning it, you can buy a k&n recharge kit, or you can order the AEM kit,
all it is, is cleaner, and filter oil. the aem would be best, but you would have to order it, you can get K&n kit at any auto store. im not sure if bumper needs to be taken off, it probly dose. . .
depending if your area is dusty or clear, you should clean it every 15-30 thousand miles

From what I've read, yes the easiest way is to take the Bumper off.

Its not as *hard* as you might think it is, 10 minutes your bumper is off.

the Mazdaspeed cai comes with a cleaning kit, just follow the directions. yes, you do have to remove the front bumper to get to it. cleaning it is simple, jsut a little time consuming. you have to use two bottles of the solution, one bottle for the initial wash in warm water, the second bottle for the second wash with warm water. make sure you soak the filter in the mixed solution for 15-30 mins i believe. after you do two washed (using both bottles), then you let it air dry then reinstall.

Take intake out, dab some rubbing alcohol on microfiber, and rub away. Make sure you dont touch the actual filter with your hands though, I heard it is really bad for the intake.

It's an AEM Dryflow filter, they sell a cleaning solution for it that you can buy from Summit, Jegs, etc., use to be an instructional cleaning video on the AEM website

DO NOT USE ALCOHOL, pour the bottle of their cleaner in a 5 gal pail of water, dip filter in closed end first but do not submerge the pipe opening side (otherwise when the dirt comes loose you'll be getting it on the engine side of the filter, not good), the cleaning solution fills the filter, lift and let drain, repeat numerous times to clean it from the inside out, dump cleaning solution and refill pail with clean water, repeat dipping sequence above to rinse cleaning solution out, let filter air dry and then reinstall

edit: here you go, cleaning video link is down near the bottom
