clutch drop while not fully engaged
mm... need some peace of mind here ^^. got a little too eager going after a 318i (i know :/), and dropped the clutch going into 3rd gear without it actually being in the gate :x .. *crunch*. i know this is bad, but what exactly happens when a 9k flywheel misses a gear ? :/

I wouldn't worry about doing it once. I actually have done it about 3 times. Being too eager and being new to the car will do that to ya. But I don't have any problems with the tranny right now.

at a minimum that synchro ring set, but they can generally take a bit of abuse before getting to that point
the problem with this particular gearbox is that you have to disassemble it almost completely to reach those parts so that's a good chunk of labor, the parts for this gearbox add up quickly too, I had one rebuilt buy a friend who owns a trans business so he cut me a break on the labor because he did it himself along with a replacement gear & countershaft bought on discount through the motorsports program and it cost me almost as much as the used low mileage gearbox I bought from a salvage yard.
So if you have any significant damage and you're paying retail it is likely more cost effective to try and locate a low mileage gearbox and just have it swapped out. I did the removal/install myslf, not too tough of a job for someone with mechanical ability and the proper tools.

I didn't mean you tore it up, but just the long range life of it probably won't be as long as someone that has never done it. Say you never grind 3rd again, you probably won't be doing a tranny rebuild for a long time to come.
