CLUTCH order, getting ripped off?

CLUTCH order, getting ripped off?
So I blew my engine at about 100k miles and took it into a place here in Billins, Montana to get a new engine which is costing me $4150 for the labor and engine. So they call me up today and tell me that my CLUTCH is all grinded off and that I need to replace that as well or it will be pointless to put the engine in. Now, he told me he could get the clutch ad install it for $1000. Is he over charging me? I was looking on the Internet and an entire new clutch and transmission together is arount $1000, but the actual clutch is on like $200-$300. Am I getting ripped off or is he putting a completely new transmission in it?2004 Mazda RX8 GT 6 speed manual

If you just need to replace the clutch it shouldn't cost more than $500. But that also depends on where you live. How much is he charging for labor? Is he telling you he's going to replace the clutch AND transmission for $1000? you need to call and ask him that.
If he's charging 1 grand for just a clutch replacement that's WAY too much

They are already doing the labor, if the clutch was good they would have had to remove it from the old engine to put it on the new one anyway so they shouldn't be charging you anything. When I got mine replaced they did it for free, I just brought them a new clutch kit.

Just spoke to the owner (Bob) and he said they are replacing the following:
THROW OUT BERRING, CLUTCH, PRESSURE PLATE. All this and the labor is $1000. Am I being ripped off?

Yes you are. 5000$ for a motor swap and a clutch?!
The cheapest I found around me was 2500$ for the motor to be done and I am sure they would just do the clutch if I brought it to them, its not that big of a hassle to do a clutch if the motor is pulled already.

No, the engine is a BRAN NEW engine. So I bought the engine. For the buy + Install is $4150. That THROW OUT BERRING, CLUTCH, PRESSURE PLATE are $1000 to get brand new ones and have them installed. So its like $5150 for a new engine and new clutch with the install. Mostly concerned if I am being ripped off on the THROW OUT BERRING, CLUTCH, PRESSURE PLATE price and installation. They had to remove the old engine and THROW OUT BERRING, CLUTCH, PRESSURE PLATE.

The throwout bearing is not expensive at all, not even in the 3 figure range. If they removed the clutch already then just bring them a new clutch and tell them to use that instead of the old one. I don't see any reason why they're tacking on an addt'l grand to the work. Even if they're charging full retail for the new clutch kit, like I said before, you shouldn't even reach half of that figure depending on where you live.
I highly recommend you stop doing business with this mechanic and find someone else who has a little more integrity.

I only did CAPS cause I thought it would make the points I had stick out so it easier for you guys. No aggressiveness lol. We called mazda with the repair place and mazda said it would be a new engine and not a rebuilt one. Also, so with those parts related to the clutch and the clutch itself, those deffinitly should not be costing me $1000 to buy and have them install? He said it was 1200 but he could get it for 1000 and install is included with the price.
406-839-9100 thats there phone number. If someone knows alot about these parts and this car, should call them and quiz them lol.

Mazda said it would be a new engine or the Mazda dealer? I bet it was the dealer. Dealers often mislead (or are just ignorant) and you would not be the first to be told you are getting a "new" engine.
But Like I said, there is no debate, you cannot get a new engine, they no longer make them. New engines were hand built in Japan at the engine factory and since there is no rotary in production, they no longer make them, and they have not for the series 1 Renesis for some years now.
Mazda has a re manufacturing plant in VA and that is where dealers get their engines from. In the beginning (2005 or so, before the reman plant was built) when the engines failed some were getting brand new engines but as you can imagine, as the failures racked up, the cost of providing new engines to dealers overseas was too much which is why the reman plant was opened. Those engines (yours) are rebuilt at the VA plant using some new parts and some old parts that are still within spec. Even if you have a 2011 RX-8 and your engine fails under warranty you will get a reman.
I know it's tough to hear but those are just the facts man.

Mine didnt fail under warranty. I paid the full amount and didn't go through insurance or anything. When the repair place called the actual MAZDA not dealership they said it would be a new engine cause I specifically asked. Did they lie to me? I mainly pissed of about this clutch stuff.

It has nothing to do with warranty. If you walk into the dealer tomorrow and pay cash for an engine, they will order it and you will get a re manufactured engine and you will only get a 12 month or 12,000 mile warranty. And that warranty is only valid if the dealer installs it . If they told you it was new, then yes you were lied too.

As for a new engine, I was under the impression Mazda had stopped making fresh 13b-MSP's? Even so I think you should get it done at a dealership, they do have a warranty.
So yes, in my opinion, you are being ripped off. Get a second opinion on the cost for everything at another shop and have them print a receipt. Take the receipt to the current shop and say "So can you explain this?". I am sure the secondary opinion will cost less.
What is this whole thing about going through insurance?
I never understood that, I did not think insurance would cover engine failure.
Am I wrong, for the love of god please tell me I am wrong and I need to upgrade my insurance!

You've been gone for almost exactly a year, and I don't think you've learned much since. I take it you still haven't gotten the engine replaced yet, or are you just now getting around to the engine replacement?
If you know how much a replacement clutch costs, buy it, and hand it to him, and pay him 30 minutes worth of labor to install it, since everything is already apart. I would probably even recommend a replacement flywheel, because he's going to claim that's shot, too, anyway.

Yep thats me. Its because it took the engine a year to fail after the dealership said it needed replaced. The new engine is already installed in my car and now I am just waiting for them to install that clutch system then I can get my car.

Ok, I got my car back 5 days ago. New Engine, New clutch, fly wheel, throw out berring, pressure plate, new radiator. It runs awesome, but for some reason they can not get the CHECK ENGINE light to stay off. They can do the code and reset it so that the car does an engine diagnostic again to make sure the check engine light really needs to be there. It comes back on everytime. The repair place even took it down to the Certified Mazda dealership and they also couldnt get it to stay off. They tried new spark plugs, coils and cables and still didnt work. So the repair place put the old ones back on (cheap asses). Also, his computer was showing that a cylindar was misfiring, but both the mazda dealership and this repair place said there is no actual cylindar misfiring. The check engine light doesnt flash, just stays solid and when it comes on beeps 3 times. Either way, everything in this engine is new except the coils plugs and plug wires cause he tried it with new ones and it still comes on.
