Clutch throw out bearing - covered under warranty?
My throw out bearing is making more noise than normal when the tranny is in neutral and the clutch is out. I have +37,000 miles on my 2008 Anniversary Model.
I called Ocean Mazda, Miami and spoke to the service manager asking if covered under the drive train warranty (6/60m). The answer was I think so as they do not describe it as a throw out bearing but something else. They said to bring it in and once the work is in process and the problem confirmed they would run the ticket to confirm covered or maybe not.
I tried to find a thread addressing this but could find none. Has anyone had the same experience and to what result. The tranny is fine and the clutch engages great so for right now it is just the noise.
Thank you

it should be called "Release Bearing"
Mazda call this part "Clutch Release Collar"
Well, it is part of the powertrain warranty BUT, if they take drop the transmission and found that it's "something else causing the noise", like the clutch (just random guess) then you will be bill for the FULL amount. Cuz Clutch is not covered under any warranty, so they will bill you for the part and labor, at dealership prices, probably gonna go over 1K.
so my opinion is unless you have a really good relationship with the dealership (READ:The Service writer/adviser), then you better think twice before you try to get this under warranty repair @ dealership.
IF you are friends with the dealership and they are covering everything under warranty, then you might as well upgrade the Flywheel, replace the clutch and pilot bearing & seal at the time. the time it takes to replace both should be well under 30 minutes (minus the time to drop the transmission) Ask them if they're ok with it, pay them an extra hour of labor, then buy the part on your own somewhere else (CHEAPER) and let them install it.

Super good advice and thank you for the clarification on the part description. I will take all under consideration.

it's not covered because just like brakes, clutch, etc. it is easily worn out by operator abuse or error. In this particular case a couple of examples are riding with your foot on the clutch pedal or holding the clutch pedal in excessively. These will wear it out much quicker.
Thought there was a TSB or tech note somewhere on the general whirring noise being normal as per Charles comments, but can't seem to find it

I am careful with my clutch and do not ride it. I do drive in South Florida traffic as a daily commuter and traffic is always stop and go on the South Fla turnpike heading home. My 2004 had over 70m miles in the same traffic and lasted until the car burned up (another story). The noise is louder than normal and regardless will have to be addressed.
Thanks for your response.
