Clutch or transmission noise?

Clutch or transmission noise?
Ok I'm going to try my best to describe this noise coming from the engine. And I'm trying to determine if its my transmission or clutch.
So what happens is...whenever I'm initiating First gear or Reverse, I hear a lot of metal "clanking" noise. It's as if something is loose. The noise is more pronounced when I am getting out of a parking space or in a situation where I need to depress the clutch a couple of times to move back and forth like parallel parking. My dad thinks it maybe my linkages?
Any clues as to what it may be? Does it sound like its my clutch or transmission?
BTW: I also hear a rubbery sound when my wheels are turning and i'm initiating 1st gear, but that could be an entirely other issue.
Hope someone can help out, so I can get a better idea of what might be going on, before I bring it to the dealership.
Thanks in advance!

A "clunk" sound isn't uncommon when shifting into gear when stationary. This isn't a problem, and it happens with a lot of manual shift transmissions, just you're a lot closer to the transmission in an RX-8 than you would be in most cars.

I know that clunk noise is normal when shifting into gear...hmmm, in that case I correct myself. it's not just a 1 time clunk noise, more like a rattling clunk noise, as if there's something loose.

No amount of guessing will solve your problem. If you are concerned about it you need to take it to a dealer and have one of the service managers/techs sit in the passenger seat and you replicate the problem. You can have 10 people listen to a noise your car is making and you will get 10 different answers about how it sounds, but someone there may have heard it before and have an idea.

theres a lot of info on here about that. that trans/clutch can make a bit of noise, a lot of us have taken it to the dealer, they say nothings wrong. i just live with it. if you have trouble getting into or out of a gear then take it in. if you can hear the trans sound, while your radio is on sound level 5, then you may have a more pronounced problem
