I know this has been beaten to death but i have searched and read all i can but i am still unclear on one issue. I know you can get your cobb tuned to your car but it also comes with a general map for all series I's. So I dont have any mods on my car and i was wondering if the general map is sufficient. Will i get benefits still? Sorry im sure this has been answered but im not great at searching.

 

I would say that ... it depends from person to person.

I didn't find that the Stage I map did anything to increase power or response

 

I am running a modified Cobb stage 1 map (I changed fans, DTC codes, etc.) and my but dyno says yes but I don't have any dyno data to back that up. I have heard many say that it causes you to run lean, etc. But I think that is fan boi BS because I have been running it a long time and my AFR's are actually really good (low 12's) throughout the rev range.


Now will you notice any major power or drive ability increase running the Cobb stage 1? probably not. But I tend to believe Cobb's claim just because they have always been a legit company and the claimed gains are minor. I will dyno soon though and we will see.

Not really, unless you want to data log or have it to monitor data and clear CEL codes. If you are set on the Cobb then I suggest getting the tuning service as well with Mazdamaniac. Even though you are not modded you will still reap the benefits of the increased oil injection, fan changes, and power gains probably even with a stock RX8.
