FL Cold Air Intake suggestions

I have a 2004 Rx-8 and need opinions on what cold air intake is the best for my car?

since any aftermarket intake for a NA car is not much more then a sound changer i'm not sure what you mean by best.

I have the Mazdaspeed CAI, which is just the AEM CAI with mazdaspeed on it, i like the sound it delivers.

Oh, just an aside, poorly built aftermarket intakes can actually lose power or cause problems with the MAF.. so read up before you buy.

Technically the OEM intake IS a cold air intake. The air is drawn from outside the engine bay.

Todd makes a very valid point. If you're looking for performance gains the intake shouldnt be the first place you look to spend money.

With that CAI you have - what's involved to change the filter? Does the bumper cover have to come off again?

with the AEM / MS CAI you have to take the bumper off. After you've done it once you can take the bumper off again in under 2 minutes, alone.

This one should work well too, plus people will think it's an intercooler. Win win.

just get rid of the Vfad and the sound walls inside the filter box, then get yourself a revi ram air DUCT only and attach it to the stock intake box. Probably the best setup for this car. If you wanna take it a step further, get a k&n filter (if you DON't live in a dusty area) and remove one of the MAF screens. that's as good as its going to get. Don't waste your money in a 350$+ kit. its not going to be worth it.

If you insist on getting an aftermarket intake, I'm sure there are a lot of people selling them used. You might be able to find a good deal.

cold air intake

I have a 2008 40th anniversary edition RX8 with the mazdaspeed cold air intake, installed by my mazda dealer. They charged one hour labor. I have had no problems with it, it sounds great and I have improved performance and a slight mileage gain. And because it is a mazdaspeed part, the CAI and engine are covered under mazda warranty.

I am considering this.

My car came with an un-installed K&N filter/pipe/box. I believe it is the gen2 one.

I posted a thread requesting advice on the kit and whether it's worth it or not.
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-aftermarket-performance-modifications-23/k-n-gen-2-intake-210537/

would appreciate some advice.

you make it sound like the RB duct is free ?

not to mention, what is the point of getting RB duct when you're not getting the REVi box? you notice there is a gap right ?

whats wrong with the mazda speed intake. It causes no air turbulence, its tuned for the car, and built by mazda so it wont ruin your warranty chances.

hmm, so you're saying stock intake cause tons of turbulence ?

every intake designed for *car name here* is tuned for that car.

and built by mazda so it wont ruin your warranty chances.
thats just wrong, its built by AEM with Mazda's badge on.

Warranty issue? some people did had issues.

BS, the BEST set up IF you are running NA, is the OEM set up, particularly THE Filter..

K&N should stay of the shop shelf.

Mazda spent a fortune on their Intake set up from a filtering point.

Go ask all the Racing "guru's", most use OEM Filter, those that do not have dirt in Oil pan issues which is not good...I wonder how it gets there?
