connector identification (under dash)

I just picked up a '04 RX8 and upon a complete inspection I found a connector disconnected and the two wires are jumpered together with a piece of wire. I found where it connects to but cannot figure out what it is for and why it's jumpered. The switch it connects to is under the dash on the clutch pedal linkage. I added a pcture because that make it easy to visualize.

I bet your car will start without you pressing the clutch. That is the starter interlock switch. The only reason I can think the previous owner would do that would be to install a remote starter.

I think you might be on to something. I just went outside and it did start without pushing the clutch in. I removed the jumper and connected the plug. Now it won't start unless the clutch is depressed, just like it's supposed to be......

I think we just avoided a disaster if the wife tried to drive it. Thanks members!
