Constant Flooding from Catalytic Convertor

about 2 months ago my car was stalling randomly due to bad spark plugs i got that fixed and now due to that my CAT is going out and its my making my car flood almost everytime i drive it now, which is very annoying, my dealership that i goto will rip me off about $2000 to fix so im not going to go there ive heard you can get the CAT taken out and the car will run fine without it but i dont know of anywhere that will do it because i dont really want to buy a new CAT right now im planning on waiting until december before my inspection too. so basically are there any places that will take the CAT out and if so for how much?

The cat is a part of the emissions system. By federal law, it is warrantied for 8 yrs/ 100,000 miles.
The dealer shouldn't be charging you for any emissions related repairs, yet.

Contact MazdaUSA or EPA

The Design and Defect Warranty covers repair of emission related
parts which become defective during the warranty period. The Design
and Defect warranty for model year 1995 and newer light-duty cars and
trucks is outlined below:

Design and Defect Warranty Coverage for 1995 and newer light-duty
vehicles:

* Emission control and emission related parts are covered for the
first 2 years or 24,000 miles of vehicle use; and

* Specified major emission control components are covered for the
first 8 years or 80,000 miles of vehicle use.

According to federal law, an emission control or emission related
part, or a specified major emission control component, that fails
because of a defect in materials or workmanship, must be repaired or
replaced by the vehicle manufacturer free of charge as long as the
vehicle has not exceeded the warranty time or mileage limitations for
the failed part.

Would you want to pay

or would you want to drive an hour away ?

Your choice.

While you're at it, contact your local BBB or whatever and report that dealership's act. cuz its against the law. mind to share the name of the dealership ?

Wow, Im really surprise that you actually still stick with that dealership.

Go somewhere else first, and fix what it needs to be fix.

Then call MNAO up and ask them *why is the other dealership fixing it for free? and this one is charging me money ?*

wow, what they did again ? pour a bottle of cleaner into your gas tank, and those cost what? 6-10 bucks ?

spark plug set $154.85
why am I seeing 2 plugs listed ? Stock plugs for this engine cost 20 bux if you buy it from outside, dealership (honest one, which obviously yours was NOT) charge about 30 bux, and you need 4 plugs for this engine.

the air filter about 30 brand new

element air cleaner $47.50
???? wtf is that ? are you talking about the A/C filter ?
I dont think so, it does not sound like it.

ignition coil $212.99
.... 100 for all 4.

plug wires $75.80
LOL ! should be around 50 something

misc stuff $29
total
labor $500.12
Holy ****, how much per hour ?

parts amount $455.05
misc. charges $29
sub total $984.17
tax $42.41
TOTAL $1026.58
DAMN ! what a rip off.

If you were in NYC, I do everything for you for free(you gotta get the parts tho, but no where near what the dealership charged you) just give me some beers and talk to me while Im doing it. (cuz its boring to work alone ...)

You dont need a lift to work on this car.

Hell I have just 4 jack stand and a big low profile garage grade jack. (about 6 pumps and I put jack stand in, sweet jack, but 100 bux tho )

thats all you need.

if your friends dont have a low-profile jack, get one cheap, maybe 20 bux.

One of the dealership (Great Neck Mazda)

Last time I was there, maybe 7-8 months ago, charging 105 bux per hour.

Dunno about now, they jack their prices up every freaking year.

but the point is that, the stuff that they did to her car, lets just say the dealership charge 100 bux per hour, 5 hours of time to do "those" ? come on.

$95.50 per hour is in the ball park for dealerships. Also for a lot of good independent shops. Not a ripoff, just the way things are. Pretty much the way a nickel candy bar is now over a dollar.

rol - unless your 8 is more than 8 years old (impossible) or has more than 80,000 miles, the cat is covered by the emissions warranty. Do not pay anyone to replace it or remove it. If your dealer refuses to replace it under warranty, have them put it in writing, then contact MNAO.
