Converting my 8 to a hybrid ....
So I hear there soem where exists a hybrid with a renesis in it somewhere...
would it be possible to convert my 8 to a gas - electric hybrid?
One that I would have to charge every night...

Your heard wrong. If you have access to hydrogen and a relative that works for mazda you might be able to test a Hydrogen RX-8

One or two of the concepts in the past year or so were direct injection Renesis hybrids. Easier to build one from the ground up than to try to convert one. I'd say impossible, but then someone somewhere might just do it.

Are referring to the rumor of one at the 2007 Toyko motor show.
What they really had was a concept minivan with a hybird version of the rotary / hydrogen engine. Mazda Premacy Hydrogen RE Hybrid So you were a little right, but this would never see life in a Sports coupe like the RX-8. Where would the batteries go?

In short, there is NO WAY you will ever be able to home build a gas-electric hybrid. Converting little geo metros and saturns to simply full electric costs well over $10,000 dollars, and you end up with a piece of crap that goes maybe 100 miles.
Making a hybrid involves very sophisticated drivetrain management systems that are beyond the capacity of pretty much anyone except an engineer that designed the prius or another hybrid, and even if you had the know-how, the cost would be beyond anyone out of the fortune 500. To put it another way: Toyota started making priuses at a loss when they first came out, they just wanted to push the concept, and succeed it did.

Those are going to cost around $100,000. He could just find a 1972 Datsun 1200 and convert it to an electric drag racer.

actually I meant renesis. there are 5 aussie countries competing and a few canadians ....
a couple of canadiens are using steam to capture the wasted energy from excess heat... cool idea... only basic stuff done. and a few aussie companies are utilizign various methods.... 1. heat capture to electricity 2. braking to electricity 3. plug in hybrid type. all using the swiss made gel packs that can fit into the rear seats. It makes them unusable for humans ... but really its a sxy place to hide batteries while keeping them away from the gas tank.
as far as converting any normal 4cyl to a hybrid .... its 2500.00 with the lead acid batteries /// 3500 with ni battery packs. they are stand alone kits that work independently from the auto your in .. the electric motors take the place of the alternator. downside... wont work with rotary engines....
doe.gov/eere always has fun info
