Cracked Intake Manifold

Cracked Intake Manifold
Hey all, hoping to get some help from you guys regarding this:
My car is currently at the dealership right now (they're putting in a reman engine under warranty) and they noticed that the intake manifold is cracked. They are waiting on an answer from Mazda NA to see if they can get it replaced together as part of the warranty, but if not they say it'll cost me $1100 for a replacement.
here're my questions:
- Does anyone know if the intake manifold is indeed covered under the engine core warranty? (2005 with 72k miles)
- If not, how much do they usually go for? Are there any cheaper aftermarket options? (I google'd but only seem to be able to find used ones)
- Any additional tips/advice/knowledge would be appreciated.. thx!

The question is: how the heck does someone get the intake manifold cracked?
I would be even suspicious that the dealer's mechanic cracked the manifold when they removed the engine... at least wouldn't put it past a dealer.

how much will you be selling it for? used/new?

I have no idea myself! I read that this is a common problem with turbo'd engines, but my car is stock everything..

It's plastic, easily cracked when hit. It's not a common problem on turbocharged 8's or any 8 for that matter. It could easily be cracked during an engine swap though if not careful. Anyway, if you wanna buy the one I have just let me know.
A certain someone with Auto 8 did rip through a few but that was in no way a fault of the manifold

There really isn't a way to prove this, is there? Unless I actually checked the state of everything in the engine bay before, and have them sign it off. I'm pretty much left under the dealer's mercy...

*update*
Just got a call from the dealership -- it's not covered, but they said Mazda NA and the dealership will help out, and so I'll only be paying ~$640 for a replacement intake manifold.

you should be able to find one at local junk yard for maybe 100-200. just giving you another option. Its as good as new.

they cracked ur manifold, have them own up on it, period. if ur at all 100% positive that its not YOU, given the details at hand, then all that simply needs to be done is to ask for any other "codes" that may have been prior to your engine failure. as i'm pretty sure... a damaged manifold should cause some sort of leak or a vacuum issue. if not, then they can just be lying to you about a cracked manifold when there isn't one to get you to pay up on some imaginary repairs.
ask to see it! then if it IS there, bring in ur guns (or *****) and tell them "why are u showing me a bill for someting they are responsible for breaking"
where's the dilemma?

I would definitely get them to show you it if it show signs of being crushed it should be pretty obvious it was done at the dealership. Ask a lot of questions put them on the spot and just say your not paying for it. Or even better get a friend to look at it for you its always easier to argue for someone else, its easier for your friend to say you hes not paying for that you broke it.
