i keep hearing people putting down the mazda motor oil 5w20, but if you use their oil and premix 4-6oz(good quality 2stroke), wouldn't that make up for the difference. Instead of having to drop the money on synthetic oil, and risk voiding the warranty. I figure it'd be harder for them to notice the premixing then the synthetic oil.

Synth+viscosity and premix address different issues. Besides... it's highly unlikely that a dealer would pay a lab to perform an oil test to determine the oil's type and viscosity.

5w20 is 1 issue, nothing to do with synthetic or not. and has nothing to do with premix

Both of my cars have not set foot in any Mazda Service Department since I drove off the showroom floor, and I have no intention of ever taking them there...unless I need warranty...so far so good.
Having worked in the 'system' if they think I am giving them $90+ an hour for a grass cutter mechanic to touch my car you have another thing coming...I gave the dealership most of my money..they are not getting anymore..

O
Good point. I think I paid dealership twice. First time was I didn't know ****, car had air system problem cel, and serious lack of power. Didn't know it was clogged cat. Charge me an hour of labor didn't do ****.
Last time was they said my oil filter was leaking, changed it for me without asking, and charge me 35 bud. I was about to say take that **** off but I was in a hurry, so I paid and just left, I know its just the greddy adapter leak. ******* monkeys
lol..

i've had my 8 for a long time, engine has lasted 7 years, getting a new one now. But i am one of those that did take it too the dealership for oil changes and maintenance, don't get me wrong i sneaked in the odd thing like decarb and uppercyclinder lub/cleaner. I also did certain maintenance more often such as tune ups, plugs/coils, etc. But the main reason is the warranty, i've seen many people shot down and try to fight it and get no where. My oil changes at the dealership ran $38 dollars, thats filter, oil, labour, and disposal. I've considered doing it myself, but price wise and warranty wise it wasn't worth it for the first while due IMO to price and warranty coverage. My engine warranty will be up shortly and now that i'm getting the new engine i'll be doing things differently. But i can understand why people are hesitant to buy a new car and say hey, f-u- mazda i'm doing everything myself and risk voiding the warranty.

NO car maker can void your warranty in the USA or Australia or most other continents.
Provided, you can prove that your car has had regular maintenance.
IF you modify your car to change specifications is another matter again, it depends where and what you mod, usually a maker will void the location of the mod install.

I used and tested the GC 0W-30 and after only 1500 miles it was tested and did not do to great considering how long it was in the engine. I know the tests are not perfect but the Mobil1 0W-40 has held up much better over time and mileage.

Glad this thread is here. Brought RP in with me for my last oil change, and the one guy in the shop who actually knew what a rotary was tried to talk me out of using it. Gave me the old "synthetics break down seals" story.
I've only had my 8 for a few months, and was pretty concerned. I only used RP due to a suggestion made in these forums, and was glad to see the seal breakdown story debunked here when I read thoroughly.
Not sure about others, but I get a good 1-2 more MPG with RP than I was getting with the previous oils.

would they pay that much to run a lab test to see what oil u ise? no, they will not, we are talking about hundreds if not thousands.
5w20 is 1 issue, nothing to do with synthetic or not. and has nothing to do with premix

I would send your RP in to get tested and then compare the results to the other test results from other oils in the UOA thread. The RP has not done so great honestly, but their marketing department does a great job hyping it up.
