current fuel pump options
I have found a leak at the joint of the fuel pump nipple and the quick disconnect hose. I was going to test them to see which is the one leaking, but after doing a lot of searching on the forum it looks like the fuel pump is a wear item. I'm thinking now I might replace the hose and the pump. The fuel pump options seem to be autozone, etc for around $150 with free shipping. The oem ones for around $290. And the BHR one for $325. I am of course cheap, and would like to get the cheapest one. Has anyone had any experience with them? Since there is such a small price difference between the oem and bhr, I might as well get the bhr if I go that route. My 2004 car is mostly stock. AEM intake and HKS exhaust. I go to the ocasional auto-x, but I don't think I will find myself in the situation of long left hand turns that starve the pump of fuel. I'm not sure the BHR pump solves that particular problem, but I know it's a reliability upgrade. Is it worth the extra $175 plus shipping for me? I am way way over budget for repairs on this car as it is, but I'll spend the extra money if it is worth it. Thanks.

There is a lot on here about the fuel pump.
I've had 2 oem pumps go bad. I replaced it with the BHR fuel pump as I was having problems with the starvation on high speed sweeping left turns. I didn't need the extra capacity of the pump. I wanted it because it was more reliable than the oem pumps. Recently, BHR has had some intermittent problems with the Wallbro pumps they use and are testing alternatives.
I didn't know AutoZone was selling them. That price sounds great.

pardon me. I was using autozone as a generic term for cheap suppliers. Like how we in the south use Coke to refer to all soft drinks. $160 is the lowest price I can find from online suppliers like partsgeek, etc. http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/200...fuel_pump.html Autozone is actually $204.
It looks like Airtex makes the cheapest ones and then Bosch.

I zoom therefore I am.
with fuel starvation being on of those things that can insta-kill a rotary I would err on the side of caution and make sure to go with a reliable brand over cheapest.

Hmm, chineese. Their firecrackers are not nearly as good as when I was a kid. Didn't smoke bombs use to last more than 5 seconds? Grumble grumble...
Thanks for the info. Are the OEM ones made in Japan? I see from the BHR fuel pump tech page that they are made by Abram, but a quick google search just brought up things about the M-1 Abrams tank.

lol. I rechecked the bhr site, and yes, I was mistaken.
I rumaged around and found that I did indeed have some fuel line hose and some extra hose clamps, so I made up a little hose dead end with a bolt at the end. The leak is definitely from the fuel pump nipple. When I turn the ignition on it squirts out from the underside of the nipple before the ridge. Since the leak is before the hose seal, I'll assume the hose is still good and just replace the fuel pump.
Since I'm not getting the hose anymore, I feel a little better about spending more for the bhr pump. Is anyone going to defend the cheap chineese fuel pumps?

I havent heard of the reliability issues. Cant be worst that then OEM pumps.
Ive had my Walbro in for a year now, still going strong, bu then I wouldnt expect it to fail after only a year.

lol, so I ordered the bhr fuel pump last night and woke up to a strange email. BHR is temporarily not selling them and they have not rented out the removal tool for over a year. Also the price has been raised to $425. I must have gotten an old product page or something.
