Damaged. Ignition and head relay
Hey guys,
My ignition and head relays are toast because I damaged them. I'm curious what each relay does. I assumed Ignition Relay is for the ignition, and the head relay is for head lights.
I'm 99% if I replace them everything will be back to normal but I still want to go over a few things just to be safe.
1) Fuses are good.
2) I turn the key to crank and hear a little click, but no crank and no ignition beep either. I walk over to fuse box, and press down on ST relay, and the starter cranks. Don't think I damaged starter relay, so I was wondering if the damaged ignition relay has something to do with this?
3) Headlights turn on when **** is twisted to on position even though head relay is damaged.
Thx. If something is unclear let me know..Also I do have a voltmeter. Is there anyway for me to test the relay receptacles I'n order to check for flow?
Thanks

[QUOTE=TeamRX8;4594390]Seems more likely that you have a dead/bad battery or battery cable connection.
All a relay does is provide battery power to those items when you turn the ignition key to the on position.

Thx for the response. I'll look into it. Btw, are our 12v relays standard 12v relays? Relays that are not specifically made for Mazda's and could be found for sale I'n regular stores. Or, are they specifically made for Mazda's and only available through a dealership or specialty parts store.

I am the original owner from early 2005 and have never needed to replace one. You have not explained why you think they are bad/require replacement. Your post doesn't really make much sense other than you are describing basic symptoms of insufficient battery power.

I know. I have this problem of poorly articulating my thoughts. I was hoping someone could make sense out of the jumbled mess, and I damaged my relays while i was pulling them because they're in there very tight and I did not have the proper tool. It's alright I'll just sort it out on my own.

he's saying that now, not in the OP. It's not unusual around here for someone to conclude their car won't run/crank/etc. for something entirely unrelated whether they broke it or not
the headlight and ignition relay do not impact whether the engine cranks or not, without the proper ignition relay contact it won't fire/run
potentially it could be an immobilizer issue, I'm reluctant to try and out-guess what happened and why again though ...
edit: diagram may indicate otherwise on the ignition relay, I never tried to crank it without before and could be wrong. It appears to be the ground path for the immobilizer:
