Death of my RP High Flow Cat

I've gotten a couple cat efficiency DTC's over the last few months that I have ignored or reset, as they didn't seem to effect the performance of the car.

Recently, I've had a "tiny" vibration sound after the car warms up that is coming from the center area of the car, and then finally tonight the car started acting real strange, stalling during deceleration, rolling idle and running real rich.

The car threw a P0335 CEL, which is ecentric shaft related, but that doesn't really make sense in light of the other symptoms.

Long story short, the stock cat is going back on the car. Guess we'll see if the RP cat died or not. I've only had it for 6monthsm which is kinda wierd.

Any thoughts guys? Anyone else have similar issues?

It sounds good on Paper, increasing HP on the FD model (compare to stock and other 3rd party product) but does it worth the 900 bucks price tag ? compare to the others (I know JDM parts are always expensive, but come on, is it worth it ?

it's similar and highly recommended, this is one case where you get what you pay for

all you need to read is "SE3P"

Bummer about the cat dying on you so soon. Wasn't there a thread around here where some people had their RP cat going out in 10k?

Let us know how the car feels once you get the stock back on

I'm not to worried, Chris is an honorable guy and I'm sure will replace it if it is dead.

Man our car is quiet with the stock exhaust system. $30 later my stock cat is back on, rattles all went away, I reset the computers to clear everything out of the fuel trims and the car seems to be running normally again.

The cat makes some noises when I shake it, like bits and pieces are lose. Guess its going back to RP.

How will I know if the RP cat is dead? I've had mine since the group buy, and my car is throwing a lot of CELs recently. The dealer said to put the stock cat back on before they will do any further diagnostic tests. So I guess mine is coming off this weekend also.

I have had the super-cat since the group buy a few months ago and just recently I've started to notice a similar sound/vibration during a cold-start and it sounds like "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee." You have to really listen for it to hear it and it sounds like it's coming from the HF cat. I havent had any cells or decreases in performance.

I listened to it. It really sounds like a heat shield vibration. It's definitely a metallic sound like a thin piece of metal is vibrating against another one. Brillo's only did it after the car warmed up. When I layed down next to the car I could tell it wasn't from the engine bay but rather from under the passenger compartment somewhere. It was hard to pinpoint as sound really reflects off of concrete but the cat was the logical place for it to be from. When he reinstalled the stock cat the sound went away so that was probably it.

Does that knightsports unit bolt-on and if so does it reside in the same location (relative to front/rear) as the stock cat? Any opinions on how it would fair with a turbocharged renesis? I'd really like to have a turbo and a cat (can't stand the smell). I've recently been thinking about putting a universal cat further downstream from the engine where the exhaust is a little cooler, in order to keep it from being destroyed by the heat.

I spoke with Mary at RP and they are going to simply swap the cat out (cut out and reweld) the cat portion for me which is great as I have a 02 bung welded on the pipe already.

Props to Rotary Performance for standing behind the product.

I recently bought rx8store.net's high-flow cat, and am completely happy... I ran without a cat for some 4,000 miles before I put this on, and the first thing I fell in love with when I had no cat was the popping sound from high RPM's...

With this HFC, I still have the popping, but since the cat is actually a Magnaflow HFC I can hear only the low Hz passing the cat..

Sucks Brillo that your cat got destroyed, I'm sure it's not RP it's just cat's in general... I really hope mine doesn't fail... Good thing they are fixing it for free..

It comes with the 0s sensor bung right? Sounds like a good time to try the RP Racing Midpipe.

this sound wasn't detonation like, but I can see how you might make the comparison.
