DIY: Scheduled Maintenance?

DIY: Scheduled Maintenance?
So my first post here. With the size of this forum i am sure this has been talked about but after about an hour of searching (easily distracted by other interesting threads though) I havnt found to much on what i am looking at. If this has been discussed can you just link me to the thread?
My girlfriend owns a 2009 RX8... lucky me. Its due for her 24K km scheduled maintenance. This runs $250 CAD after removing the tire rotation (-$50) which i will do when i put on her winter tires. It includes an oil change, checking fluids and a brake inspection. I told them i could do the fluid checks but they insisted it was included and would not change the price.
So are scheduled maintenance's required for warranty issues? if not what does this brake inspection include. I like working on vehicles I do all the maintenance and repairs on my trucks so can i handle this?
Thanks for any responses

if you bedded in the brakes properly, and aren't loosing brake fluid then all I would do is go out and test the abs, and the dsc system. Basically turn really hard and make sure the cars traction control works. Then I would test the abs on the highway. Brake hard, but don't lock your brakes out. Oh and if you really want set the parking brake on a good incline and see if the car rolls.

You can get the required service done anywhere...just maintain proof that it was done. Save receipts...and if they're the kind of thermal prints that fade, scan or Xerox them.
Charging for brake inspection or checking fluids is a scream. When I get oil changes at my local Mazda dealer they do a free "Full Circle" inspection that includes checking all of that stuff. FWIW, tire rotation at my dealer is $20 US. $50 US gets me a rotation and balance.
If the dealer won't just do a regular oil change with the customary free eyeballing of fluids, find another dealer.

Thanks for the replies
This does seems like a total money grab they also did the:
Check brake fluid
Check clutch fluid
Listing them as separate inspections
Well for now I will stick with the oil change and if this is required for warranty purposes then i will be looking for a more reasonably priced option like you suggested.
I also thought it was funny when i told him to exclude the tire rotation and the price dropped from 300 to 250 even though on the board behind him it read that a tire rotation was $20..... but i didn't complain at that point.
Thanks,
Mike

Brake inspection is suppose to entail removing the Wheels and using a micrometer on the rotor and checking thethe thickness of the pads by eyeball.
Expect to replace the plugs soon. Don't forget she needs a red line once a day.........
