What??
The damn **** on the right side controls the heat and th a/c Duhhh!!! It changes how much cold air is mixed with warm air with the a/c position on. Before everyone starts jumping on me there is a problem with the RX8 A/C like it or not. I choose to do something about it. The rest of you with problems can sit back and do nothing for your $34,000 .....
The area reps know there is a problem, as well as Mazda HQ..

Reminds me of an old Marx brothers joke - Dr., it hurts when I do this. Dr says, don't do that.
BTW, with the a/c on and the heat off, 42 degrees is an excellent reading.

now, if the coldest setting was only blowing 62F air, then there would be a problem.

The fact is that any car can create more heat with its heater than the amount of cold that it can generate with its a/c becuase the heater is just redirecting waste engine heat and there's a virtual unlimited supply of that. In the summer, the heat is going to work especially well. That's why old timers would open up the heat if their cars were starting to overheat.
So kindly explain exactly what it is that is wrong with your a/c that is driving you insane. Please include why you are expecting the system to do something other than what it is doing. Hundreds of people here have complaints about the a/c but you appear to have some other distinctly different concern.

What are you saying here? "ADJUSTABLE TEMPERATURE CONTROLS!!!!!" A climate control system that is thermostat controlled?
Since you didn't respond to my request for clarification above it just appears that you want to SCREAM. So how about writing a nice concise explanation of what it is that you are expecting the car (or Mazda) to do for you before the mod closes this thread on you.

Hey ain't me bangng my head. First it would be nice to have thermo control. But Mazda was to cheap to install it like in Canada and Singapore.
What they could at least do is make that temp **** not move the air mix acuator so much each time you change it one notch. By the fifth notch your over 80 degrees.
Hey start a poll and see how many people are satisfied with their A/C system.
I don't need to scream either. I am just concerned for ALL RX8 owners who are getting the shaft because Mazda was to cheap to put in a quality system.
Maybe you will understand now. I'm cool just saying what I think. What you think of the A/C system is your business, but there are a lot of disatisfied owners and I hope they will speak up.

So, let me ask, have you owned the 8 through the winter? Can you dial up more heat when the ambient temps are low? The coldest it gets here in the winter is in the 30's and I can crank the heat fully 16 clicks with the a/c on and get an appropriate amount of heat. If I turn the a/c off, max heat is too high to use. In the summer with ambient temps in the 80's after dark, I can dial in 2-3 clicks of heat to keep from getting frozen out. Never put a temp guage on it but it is as usable as any other manual system.
As far as gaining allies for your cause, I'll leave it to you to run a poll.
The Mazda zone rep might agree with you, but until they decide to put the auto climate into the US spec cars there's not much to do. If it bothers you that much, open up the heater box and wrap part of the heater core with insulation.

Heat
Does not take the full setting to get max heat. I can look down by the accellerator pedal and see the mixing acuator at work. And see just how much it opens with each click. Look under there with the a/c on and move the temp dial.

I still don't get the complaint? If your getting to hot or cold you have to move the temp guage a notch or two? Or if you wanted a temp sensor controlled system you could have bought a car with it. I mean I understand the strain of having to turn that **** a bit to adjust the temp. Life just sucks, my GF expects me to kiss her before I stick it in, why the hell didn't I get that auto stick model!!!

Complaint
Damn, The complaint is you change the control **** one notch and get a 15 degree temp change!!
If you like your a/c system fine.....
If not I invite you to call Mazda Customer Service and Complain. Maybe they will improve the system on the next model or even have a recalll.

I still don't know what the deal is... OK, so the car may hve sucky a/c but its not really that far off from any other cars on the road. I have owned 10 cars previously ranging from Japanese to European to American manufacturers. Some have climate control but on the others a couple of notches change in the temp **** and you also get significant change in temperature during summertime.
BTW, 42deg is dang fine temp. Some members here don't get as cold...

42 is a fine temp. After i added Ice 32 http://www.ice32.com/index.htm I have made my complaint to Mazda Cool Drive on!

you know what, just sell your 8...your a freaken disgrace complaining about some stupid a/c problem. just freaken deal with it...nothing is perfect...after all you only paid around 30k...8s are suppose to be for performance, not some stupid cooler...look at other cars around our price range...the evo? heck that a/c's garbage. you'd be lucky to get the a/c below 70. just be freaken happy you have a car that has such a nice interior, handles excellently, and is fast for an N/A car, if not, JUST SELL IT...im sure your 8 will be glad to stop hearing your bitching

Canadians don't get 'climate control', we have almost identical cars to the US.

Can you start a thread for everything you don't like about the car? Maybe in each section of the forum.
General disscusion
Tech garage
and Issues and problems.
There's a member in the lounge that wants to have his name on every thread tonight. It will give him something to do.

I've already weighed in with my opinion on the way my A/C operates, which I consider marginal at best. But this weekend I had the opportunity to take my brother on a 120 mile highway trip in my 8, and wouldn't you know it, not 15 minutes into the ride he's redirecting the vents away from his seat, saying he's cold.
Sometimes it's good to get someone else's perspective on a problem. Occasionally we get so caught up in a situation that we can't see when the problem has been solved.
