Don't know what to do?Big problem

On the way home I go to get on the interstate I push the pedal to the floor and nothing the car locks at that RPM and actually slows down, if I gradually move to WOT it does the same thing but it backfires and actually sounded like it popped under the hood, and I could here metal rattleing or beating and something smells horrible, but I don't think it's clutch. So I don't know what to do or what it is, any ideas.

Call the 800 number and have it towed to the dealer so they can check it out. Doesn't sound good but if it's still under warranty they will fix it.

EDIT: On second thought after reading your sig, the above may not be the best advice. With all those mods the dealer will probably not want to do any warranty work on the engine.

Hey T.O, I meet you at the Raleigh Rotary meeting (Yellow RX-8).

How long have you had you Greddy kit installed for before this happened?
Does the car still drive fine at the lower RPM range? Did you make it home?
Are you able to rev the car to redline without it being in gear?

I doubt this is your problem, but this thread covers my recent events with the Engine's output failing at WOT:

It sounds like the problem i had with my 8, step on the gas and it feels sluggish and when the rpms climb you start to hear a rattling noise and sounds like metal. It is spark knock casued by bad apex seals inside the engine. Mazda is sending me a new engine under warranty. But if you have a turbo i think you are F'ed

hmmmm that doesnt sound good id consider pulling out the mods and sending it to the dealer but that might not be the best advice because i heard about mazda dealerships monitoring this club looking for excuses not to repair vechiles due to abuse and considering your picture is on here with your car and the mods u have they might not wanna touch ur car with a 10ft pole. however best of luck to you

Dang bro. I hope, for your sake, that it is only the clogged cat. Happened to my Probe a while back so I just took the SOB off, but with warranty and all that crap, may not be the best idea here.

That was the worst CAT I hav ever seen! The CAT was definetly a problem, restricting airflow 80%. The problem still is not solved but after driving the car again we realized that if you accelerate 3/4ths throttle until it starts acting up and then back off a little bit and mat it again it flys, and a whole lot harder than it ever did before. We think all the back pressure caused by the CAT backfeed the system and popped something loose like on of those rubber couplings or something, I will know by tomorrow night, I'll check it all tomorrow.

Now it sounds like you blew your engine. Hope I'm wrong. But it doesn't make sense that when get past the sticking point it flies.

Every turbo expert I have talked to so far says it's going to be a loose pipe or a leak some where. And every rotary expert say it's not blown. It's like there's a hole and when I start to accelerate and get some real boost going it opens up and lets all the air out and when I let off and smack it, it closes the leak. I checked today and saw all the pipes are stil connected, so I may have blown a gasket or punctured one of those rubber connecters. Tomorrow, actually in the morning, I'm going to try to spray all the connections and see if I can find a leak. I tell you what when you can get it to pull it pulls like it never did before, so I definitley don't think the motors blown.

Do you have a BOV? Could it be leaking or opening too early?

Yes I do, it's possible, but what would cause this?

Check the rubber expansion coupler at the base of the tube attatched to the throttle body. The quality of that coupler/reducer is less than the others and a tear may not be seen from the top. Remove the tube and the coupler and check for cracks.Scott

I dunno how well RX-8 turbo questions would be received, but you might consider trying one of these forums for turbo troubleshooting advice:

http://www.dsmtuners.com

http://www.dsmtalk.com

These are Eclipse/Talon forums. But these guys live and breath turbos and have seen it all.

Glad it's not the motor. Check this thread for leak testing.

I still don't understand about your emanage map. If it was deleted, how is the car not running lean under boost?

I don't think it was deleted, that was just a theory

Did it, nothing I would think would cause this problem
