Are double sided tape necessary for fender strakes
I am about to put on some strakes, but these ones didn't come with the double sided tape. Will it still be ok without them?

Which strakes?
I have used RX8strakes version and they can scratch the paint without the tape under them.
None of the others need the tape. Right now I have the rotary13b1 strakes.

RX-8 Strakes recommends double sided tape or larger screws when their metal screws into brittle plastic fail. I too am worried about hurting the finish with the plastic directly against the fender but I don't think double sided tape is a good solution. A Mazda parts guy told me that harmed the finish on many cars with their original strake design. I think I'm going to try the redesigned Mazda strakes. I heard they have a rubber surface against the paint.

Thanks for your posts...
DarkBrew I have the 13B1 strakes too.(I have a question for you... were the strakes perfectly flush to the frame? the ones on the left side were quite off)

RX8strakes in use here without the tape. As Swoope says, just be real careful when washing. I haven't noticed any paint damage from not using the tape and mine have been on over two years now.
