I'll give you an example of why it doesn't tell you drivetrain losses accurately. The 2nd generation RX-7 was a prime example. That car weighed about 300 lbs less than the RX-8. It was very hard to push. It didn't want to move. On that car, the suspension is setup so that the rear toe changes depending on the vehicle's orientation. It always had a little toe in at the rear. This was a resistance to movement and made it very hard to push. When the rear squatted down as in during acceleration, the toe lessened. When you decelerated and weight came off of the rear, toe increased. So did friction. When the car leaned heavily to one side such as in heavy cornering, toe would be more on one side than the other and so forth and so on. This could mistakenly be seen as drivetrain loss but it isn't. It has less rolling resistance accelerating than decelerating. Combine this with the fact that the brakes every so slightly drag on that car and it's pretty damn hard to push. How does a deceleration test tell you anything useful about how much you are losing to the transmission, etc? It doesn't. Don't even waste the time trying to figure this out. It's still no more than 15%.

they don't do anything serious to the drivetrain except disassemble and blueprint everything

There has been enough testing of our engine on engine dynos (hymee & racing beat to name a couple) to prove that we only make 210-220 hp to the crank . This is in line with whp figures .
We need to let go of this thought that there is 232 hp at the crank and massive drivetrain losses.

OK so they have 12% drivetrain losses and the stock car still has around 15% at best. You still can't change that. It is not anywhere even remotely close to 20%. Explain the 3rd gen RX-7 numbers to me. 12%-15% losses completely bone factory stock with a 4.10 rear end and all heavier rotating mass. Where's that mythical 20%? It's nowhere because neither car has it. Period. End of story.
