DSC Question

Hi all, I drive a UK spec 2005 6MT. I think the DSC functions should be the same as the US model. When I pressed the DSC button the other day, the DSC Off light lit up on the dash. When I pressed and held it for 6 to 7 seconds, the "slippery road" icon lit up in addition to the DSC Off light. What is the difference in function between pressing it once, and doing the press and hold function? Also, is there any way to turn the DSC on again without cutting the engine and starting again?

When the car is driving around a smooth bend (even when not pushing it anywhere to the tyres' limits) and it goes over a little bump, the rear end will sometimes become skittish and self adjust. It feels as if brakes were applied on one side. But the DSC light does not come on when this happens. Is this normal or could I be having rear suspension problems?

We have the EU spec 6sd, if the rear wheels break loose, the rear brakes are applied and the slippery icon is illuminated, when I push the DSC,the DSC off" icon and the slippery icon are displayed,I can get it sideways.I have read here, that if you hold the DSC for more than 8 seconds,it disables the DSC and the ABS.

^nope. it wont disable ABS.

as it says in the manual, when you press the button for more than 2 secs, the system thinks its a faulty button and lights up the light to indicate you.

^^ Your correct, just went for a thrash with the DSC held for 8 seconds and the Traction control was displayed,it does not affect the ABS.
But ,I have to hold the button for at least 8 seconds to have the Traction icon displayed.

So, is it a unique feature for our EU spec versions? Just wondering if its a 2 stage DSC that controls torque and brakes separately. First press turns Traction Control partially off and if you press and hold for 8 secs, it turns TC completely off. Once you hit the "8 sec" off button, both the "DSC Off" icon and "Traction" icon light up together and there is no way to turn the DSC on again until you shut off the engine and start it again. The section on DSC in the manual does not make any reference to this 8-second-off feature but I faintly remember reading about it in an old magazine. Or was it the rx8 review in Top Gear? I'll have to search youtube for that episode.
