Duplicolor caliper paint color question.

Anyone with a winning blue use the blue Duplicolor caliper paint?

Does it kinda match? Can you show me some pics? I want to paint mine blue but I want it to match some what.

Also, anyone know if you can use the caliper paint on the engine covers?

What is a better alternative to use on the covers (somethng from autozone hopefully)

I looked at some engine paint that was ford blue...

I guess I'm just really scared that the colors will either look way too different and suck.

I am pretty sure you can use caliper paint on the engine covers.

I did my rears in blue, there are some pictures in my albums. They match WB pretty well. But I have a black car. I just redid them with black, and white logos. But the paint held up pretty well.

I don't think you'll be disappointed if you get it.

LOL, I do remember now seeing your pictures and if that the same paint then it will certainly work. Thanks! Made that desiscion really easy.

Your pictures are also a very nice visual aid. I know you stated that foam brushes don't work. What did you end up wusing to paint, just a regular brush?

I used the duplicolor black on my WB 8. I didn't think the blue was close enough. The black looks good.

I just a nylon brush. Any hair, or synthetic brush will work. just make sure you use a metal pan or something like it to hold the paint.

The duplicolor is to light. You need to find a store that mixes paint and have them put it in a spray can for you like I did.

I bought caliper paint in a spray can.

Actually, it was great. the autozone moron only charged me for one item (brake fluid) even though I purchased a bunch of other stuff. (like 60+ dollars worth.)

Guy scanned everything and the total came to $7.34, I swiped the card, signed and left.

G2usa.com can do a paint color match I'm pretty sure I haven't done it yet but you have to request it And then they tell you if they can. You'll pay Alot more for it than duplicolor caliper paint the paint match would run you maybe 100 plus shipping if I'm right

I'm not up for 100 dollars for paint right now, specially the deal I got noted above (Free).

If the colors don't exactly match, thats fine, it will give some contrast.

the duplicolor is VERY close. Besides, as it gets a little dirty, and it will, it will match.

Spending 100+ on paint for calipers is kinda ridiculous.

It is shiny.

And why do you want to put the white underneath? Just get the polak rx8 decals. I just did re-did mine black with those white decals last week.

If you do want to use white paint, they don't have caliper paint, but they do hae engine enamel. Both last up to 500 degrees. Not sure what the difference is, but that's you're next best bet unless you can find some white caliper paint.

I painted the engine cover tonite using the same paint as for the calipers and it is actually pretty close. Take out the metalic part of the WB and it's very close. it is shiney, I was amazed how well it covered one the first pass and it doesn't seem to drip or bunch up.

Have to see how I did tomorrow when I rip the tape off.

WOW, HOLY WOW!!

Cleaning the calipers is PITA!!!!! How did you guys do this while the calipers where still on the car?? How could you have gotten them clean.

We used brake, grease cleaners, we tried sand paper and wire brushes and it was impossible. We got some CLR and it worked wonders wuth the wire brush but it was still hours of work to clean them. I think it took us 3 hours to clean these thing some what well.

i mean wow......

Tomrrow we get to do everything in reverse and get everything back together and get the brakes blead and refilled.

Reading all the DIY thread made this seem like it would be cake but it's not....

we let the paint dry for 12 + hours and we have to do a lot of touch up after the calipers were back on the car. Problem we had is as we put everything back together, our hands got dirty and that dirt transfered itself to the caliper and wouldn't come off. So we ended up with the spray paint into a cup and paint them again.

How could that be avoided? Should we have given more time to dry? They look good now that we painted by hand. I drove a good distance today and the paint held up and didn't get really dirty. I'd say we did a "B" grade job.
