My baseline dyno pulls, 3 today
My dad is involved with vintage racing and the jaguar club of new england. He setup a dyno pull day at KTR Performance in Ayer, MA for his cohorts and snuck me in for the club price of $75.00 for 3 pulls. I've been to several other performance shops that have chassis dynos and I can say safely that thus far KTR's operation exceeds all others that I've been too. I used this dyno to tune my race car and I was anxious to see how my dead stock street rx8 did. The dyno dynamics dyno has a reputation as a "heart breaker" dyno as the results are typically 7% lower than a mustang and about 15% lower than a dyno jet. I was bracing myself for a really low number, I was pleasantly surprised.
Approx sea level, 73 deg F. Dyno Dynamics dyno at KTR Performance . For more info I the dyno dynamics chassis dynomometer see the KTR website.
I only attached the simple graph as I didn't get printouts for the graphs with variables other than tq and hp. I wish I had, my dad remembered and got his boost / afr graphs for his mazdaspeed miata (he snuck in another mazda in addition to his xk120 race car).
Here's the chart:
The car was dead slow when I bought it with 8k on it. It had an intake tube leak, bad plugs, bad coils and a bad cat. 2 trips to mazda gallery in Norwood, MA fixed all those issues and my butt dyno was happy. Glad to see the actual dyno agreed for once. BTW Mazda Gallery was great and did everything free under warranty with no hassel. Ask for Lee if you go there and tell them Ed sent you. They were a pleasure to deal with after my first dealer experience with another local place which was horrendous.

I was pretty stoked. As I said, it has new coils, plugs, cat latest flash and venthilation tsb. Its completely stock though.
I think I can post this hear, but if its not cool I'll edit it out:
For those in the northeast, I'm trying to put together another group dyno day with NEPOC. I'd like to get as many mazda/rx8 enthusiasts out tfhere. It will be at KTR Performance in Ayer, MA. I'm trying to setup something for a saturday in late june/early july. The group rate should be $75.00 for 3 pulls.

Forgot that I had gone to the dyno recently, so here's my dyno plot, and my A/F readout during this run. Mazda RX8 Challenge, 4port, 5MT box, 4th gear run.Mods are REVi + ramair and Trust PE Ti exhaust
For those not comfortable with Greek:
Wheel HP: 110HP/7125rpm
Crank HP: 188HP
Corrected HP: 193,5
Torque: 22,3Kgm/5145rpm (or 223,3Nm)
As for the A/F plot, you'll be amazed to know that my RX8 is NOT a turbo (which would explain the 11:1 A/F ratio ). I don't know what's up with my 8, but I'm certain 11:1 A/F is NOT normal (not to mention I have the REVi and Trust exhaust)

This is mine, done on dyno dynamics, at 5th gear. Car completely stock engine wise, still 5000km, so hopefully it will get stronger as it grows older .
Max. power: 109.5kw (146.84HP)
Max. torque: 349.7Nm
Don't have the AFR data.

Thanks, I just had the recall done on my car, they replaced 2 of my spark plugs. I'll try to put it on dyno again since now I got a new exhaust :D

I dynoed my 8 again, on a DynaPack this time, because I wanted to make sure that I indeed have a VERY rich A/F. Here are the results:
Anyone have any ideas WTF is going on with my car ? I have the REVi + ramair, and the Trust PE Ti exhaust. Could it be the cat, the MAF, something else ? The car gets generally bad mileage (yes, even worse than a "normal" RX8)...

11,7 sounds normal ? This came from the wide-band at the dyno, but I'm also seeing 11,2-11 with the sCANanalyser, and the car generally eats up gas like there is no tomorrow. I have never gotten more than 350km (220miles) on a full tank, and you can even smell gas coming out of the exhaust...
If nothing else, the REVi and the Trust shouldn't have made the air-flow worse than stock, right ?
And when I was at the dyno, we compared my plot to a couple of other 4port RX8s, and they all had 13:1-12,5:1 A/Fs. That's a 10% difference, coming right at the RPM range where -in theory- I should be seeing max HP figures. My 8 is the only one that doesn't get max HP at around 7300rpm but rather close to 5500rpm, since it's choke-full of gas in the higher rpms...
Anyone has any ideas what I should be checking during my next visit at the dealer ?

There are some threads here on what to look for if your consumption is really bad .
One thing that springs to mind is to check your MAF is clean . Thread on how to clean that is here also .

Yes bad ignition cycle. I have read before a guy with bad coils making the highest power at 5500rpm and past that rpm no power increase. Anyway you can ask the dealer just to measure your coils with the procedure I have posted earlier. If the measurement is ok, then you forget the coils as the cause of your problem.

Hey guys I am not real sure where to ask this question, and I am getting my car dyno'd tomorrow. What do I have to turn off in order for the dyno to read correctly. Is is the DSC button. If anyone could let me know that would be great.
