E-brake light is staying on?

Last night after a quick takeoff around a slight bend, my e-brake light came on and would not go off. I tried pulling over, pulling the e-brake and then releasing it, but to no avail. It just stayed on.

This morning everything seemed to be fine, and then about 5mins. before I got to work it came back on again and wouldn't go off.

Has this happened to anyone? Is it a sensor? Rear brake problem?

Sounds like a sensor issue. I would imagine you would know right away if your e-brake was sticking.

Check your fluid level in your master cylinder. If you have 45K ish on the car your brakes will have worn enough to lower the fluid level to the point where the light comes on

Might want to have your brakes checked

I currently have 31K mi.

It seemed at first that the rear brakes may have been sticking a bit, as I thought I noticed a little noise from the rear of the car, and don't know if I was being OCD but I thought the car was dragging a bit. But, this morning I didn't notice any potential rear brake noise.

I had the e-brake light also. Checked the master cylinder and the pads. There is a sensor in the master cylinder that trips the e-brake light when the brake fluid drops as the pads wear down. I had to replace my front pads. Depending on your driving style and or type of driving that you do, 31 K can be more than enough mileage to wear down the pads. Most likely it is your front pads as they do most of the stopping. The rear pads wear less quickly, but noise could either mean brake wear or could mean a little squeeking as noted in the service bullletin (check the Rosenthal Mazda TSB listings). Either way have your brakes checked.

I had this hapening on and off as the pads were dieing. After replacing them, the light did not come back on. At all time, the fluid level was within the correct range ( I change it every year).

I also had the same issue at 44k and it was due to my front pads wearing out. Most likely that is your cause.

I am not too sure about the mazda, but all my other cars it was the little button the e-brake hits when it is off. Remove the boot over the e-brake and make sure that little button is not loose. (kinda like the button that makes your dome light turn off when the door is closed)
