Echlin IC581 coils - experience pls

How have people fared with Echlin coils?

I know BHR are the only way to go but... $500 v $120 and not 100% sure that coils are my problem (though pretty sure!)

BTW before you flame yes I have searched .. just want to hear from a few people who see this message :-)

PS for other people with power problems - try cleaning your MAF takes 5 mins and v easy (you can just blow it and get a major improvement). See:

I'm ok with my lifetime warranty coils ... swap it out every year is not a big deal for me. and I got all 4 under 100 :D

I thought the same nycgps...until my buddy slapped his BHR in my car when I was having lean problems even though my coils were less than a month old. You could still tell a difference. In pick at low rpms and it started right up no hesitation at all. So now im saving for the BHR.. just my two pennys

I'm sure BHR's stuff is good, but right now I'm cool with swapping out coils every year even when it works (LOL)

and my last Lean problem was caused by malfunction a MAF(and it was new MAF too!yea WTF), nothing ignition related. :D

Sorry to raise this back from the dead but I just got an Rx8 and I was wondering too. Is the BHR worth the $540 or just changing the plugs and coils yearly. I m not using my car at the track. Its just for weekends. I see coils from $20 a piece to $50 on rockauto. Do they all work or is the BHR worth it just for the coils?

Yes the BHR are a one time purchase if you plan on keeping the car for a long while and most of the time you can get most of your money back selling the kit. The BHR kit would also be a performance upgrade if you are tuned and modified. I can't say enough good things about the product or the service from Charles at BHR.

That said, most parts stores carry OEM replacement coils with a lifetime warranty. Which ones are better one knows. Be careful of OEM replicas sold on Ebay.

You can also get the latest stock coils (version C) which are not available in and aftermarket equivalent from paul@mazmart.com
