ECU Firmware version?

I just bought my rx8. Is there a way to see what version of firmware the ECU has? What versions are out there? I'm debating if I should take it to the dealer to have it flashed. I have a 2004 with a new engine so I'd like to keep it in a good shape. I guess new ECU firmware should help?

Thanks

So I can't check the firmware unless I go to the dealer? I guess I will make a trip when the next oil change comes up, I need to get to know them anyway...and they better do it for free..

I remember reading somewhere that the new firmware dumps more engine oil into the chamber to help lube the apex seal. I feel the engine is not burning oil fast enough right now...so I was hoping flashing the ECU will prolong the engine's life.

EEEK
Yeah you should defiantly stay on top of that oil consumption.

I want you to consider this

And one of these

with this how to

I can't tell you if the a new flash from mazda will increase the OMP level.
Maybe someone else knows.

Very interesting...When I got the car I didn't check the engine oil level, but after about 150 miles of driving I checked again and it was right at the full mark. So either it's not going down fast enough or maybe the previous owner just add a little too much? Well I guess 150 miles isn't enough to really see the difference anyway. Let me drive a bit more then we will see.

So the engine is supposed to burn 1 quart very 1k miles right? and the amount between the empty and full mark on the oil dipstick is 1 quart? Hopefully mine is alright. It's got 100k on it although the engine is new.
