Thumbs down Electrical Flood---Help?

Hey Guys,

So last night I had to take of the sun visor out of my car as it broke off and was getting in the way of my driving. Right after I disconnected it the check Engine light came on and then all internal power to the car shut off.

Afterwards I had no Audio and no internal lights. I thought it was just the computer over reacting to the pulled wire and shutting down internal power.

So I bring the car into Madza they call me two hours later and say that water got into the electrical box. They say that they have to keep it for for two days to run there computer over it. First they tell me it will cost 600 to 800 to check everything and then parts on top of that. Second they tell me that it may have to be written off, which means I will need a new car.

Has anyone heard of something like this happening? And if so does it really cost that much to runa check threw there computer? Any and all advise would be welcomed. Thanks.

now, i'm no expert on this subject, but it sounds more like you blew a fuse or two.

you said that the car shut off after you removed the visor (you were disconnecting electrical stuff with the car running? ), but you didn't say if the car would start back up? was the car driveable afterwards?

it should cost no more than ~$30~$60 for the computer test (and definately less than $100), and definately no more than $2 for each fuse that was blown (for those circuits, larger fuses can be more expensive).

i would definately get a second opinion on this before paying them $600-$800 or writting off the car.

The car was running. The electrical wires of the sun visor got pulled out when I took off the sun visor. Right after that the car shut off and when I started it again, with no problems the engine light came on and the interal lights didn't work.
Now last week we had a big rain storm. Of which I drove home in. The Mazda techique said I had water in the fuse box, which was propaerly caused by this weather. I spoke to a couple of people about this and they said if the car needs to be rewired they will just right it off as the cost to rewire is to high.

Does that mean you get a new car? That would be sweet.

Yes it would. However i may have to fight with the insurance company. Oh, well at least I can get the "R" flash when they reprogram the computer and if I get a new car I will upgrade to the Gt model that I ordered in the first place.

Well I got the car back from the dealer. They were able to fix it and I was only charged for two hours of labour. They had to dry out the fuse box and some wires and then replace some fuses. It costed 210.00, not bad considering what could have happened
