Engine cut off at 5000 rpm
Hi All,
Got a 8 50,000 km, automatic 2004. until recently the car was running really smooth and about 2 weeks ago discoverd a engine cut off problem at 5000 rpm after a long drive. eventually the engine will stop by it self and would not start for about 10 mins. after things cool down engine starts back and runs fine. no engine light come on or difference in pulling power. if driving below 5000 rpm problem will not occur. what seems to be the problem . need some advice guys?

1) When was the last time the coils, plugs and wires were changed? OEM coils are only good for 30k miles (too lazy to do the metric conversion).
2) Next time it happens, have a look under the car and see if the CAT is glowing (best checked at night)
3) Prognosis sounds like a clogged CAT due to bad coils. Replace the coils, plugs, and wires and get a new CAT or gut it out or get a highflow CAT or other type of midpipe. Over here we have a federal law that warranties all emission related parts for 8years/80k miles. Check (if you don't already know) if you have a similar law.

coils and plugs are not yet replaced. they are all OEM. 30K MILES comes closer to 50,000 km. so i guess this could be the problem. also is their a possibility to clean a clogged CAT. tHANKS

Its a chain reaction. Once the coils go, the plugs go. Once the plugs go, the CAT goes. There is no way to "clean it", once it goes it's gone. Your two choices, in reference to the CAT, are to either replace it or gut it.
