They're guttin' my baby!
I got the call from service that they think they've identified the problem - some apex or something that starts with an "a' is loose on the motor and so they are going to replace the WHOLE motor. Yikes. I was a little nervous to hear that but the service guy said its actually better for me, especially since my car is about 2k away from warranty (I'm at almost 48k)
He said he checked out the coils, cat, fuel system, etc and they all look fine. So they are assuming its this motor problem.
I'll have my baby back in a week/week and a half. In the meantime, I've got a Mazda 3 with no power anything (I have to manually roll down windows LOL). Hey, it beats walking.

Powertrain warranty for 04-05 has been extended to 60 K miles, 5 years.
Yes, I'm glad they're doing *something*, even if it sounds a little drastic.

I just had my 04 Rx8 towed in to the dealer this morning. Same problem. Once my car is hot, it loses its power. I had the engine fail once and couldn't get it started for about 10 minutes. This was about a month ago. This weekend, whatever was on the verge of breaking; broke. It wouldn't start at all. I am glad to hear the warranty was extended. I'll repost when I hear from the dealer.
Caligirl, do you have an update on your 8?

I am pretty sure it was in some letter I got from Mazda or something I had seen before, but what is currently up at finishline does not mention it.

swoope I never got that notice. Maybe mine isn't covered by it. Thanks for sending it along, though.

Mazda Motor Corporation is conducting a Special Service Program (SSP) which extends the warranty coverage on Powertrain Components on all 2004, 2005 and 2006 model year RX-8 vehicles. The warranty coverage for the Powertrain Components will be extended to 5 years (60 months) from the original warranty start date, with a 60,000 mileage limitation. If you are a recipient of this notice, your vehicle is included in this program.
It says "all 2004,2005,and 2006" RX-8s, but also says "If you are a recipient of this notice". All would mean all, and not just those that did get the notice. Right?

Destroying Threads
Sorry, I haven't saw this thread, I have the same problem with my previous engine, went to the dealer, it turned out the the black wire(in my case, both of them) which connects to the battery had several severed point and the ecu wasn't getting that much power, so they replaced it and it ran fine for a while
heres the catch, that engine, once it ran fine, 3 days later, the second rotary misfired and was broken, mazda replaced my engine
