Engine Light on

Engine Light on
I have a 2004 RX-8 yesterday I tried to start the car and the battery was dead and needed to get it jumped. I drove the car about 15 miles and shut it off for about 20 minutes. When I tried to start it the engine light came out and the car wouldnt go above 2,000 RPM's. The weather was very cold that day. The dealer said it could be a voltage problem and the injectors might need to be reset. Has anybody else had this problem or ever heard of it.

One of the reasons of the engine not going higher then 2OOOrpm is a problem with the OMP. That was my problem a few weeks back.
The ECU performs a OMP test procedure at every startup of the engine.
When it detects something wrong (elektricaly) it illuminates a CEL and does not allow engine to go higher then 2000rpm for protection.
So this has nothing to do with the fact that you jumped the car to get it going.
My OMP was replaced out of precoution (+/- 80.000km), but I doubt that it was really needed.
The dealer gets a code related to the OMP.
Hope this helps !

You could reset the ECU....and if it doesn't come back you will be OK.
Problem with that is that you will loose the code that was set...and any freeze frame data that was recorded.
Buying a code reader is a good idea if you do any work on your own car.......Some of the codes are not important and do not interfere with the operation of the car...others are a no drive situation........It's always good to know which it is..
