Engine light on 90 kms :O

just bought my rx8 today, driving it around practicing my stick shifting abilities (they're low but i'm taking it slow and not shredding gears or anything) and the engine light popped up, going to take it to the dealer tomorrow, but any ideas/suggesions as to what it might be? it's my first standard car and any tips on how i'd screw it up by shifting incorrectly? shrug* no idea, a salesman from the dealer took me out in one and helped me learn how to launch and shift, took me onto the highway and all sorts of things, said i should be ready to go for it, but yeah... any suggestions would rock, apparently some people have to get their trannies replaced, just hoping it isn't as bad as that;;

update, they said it was a "misfire" because sometimes when the car is sitting for a while, it'll do that, since its brand new, it was probably sitting in the container ship for a while or something before they drove it here... but shortly after i left the dealer it came on again,, any ideas?

turns out there was a factory recall for 06' models and lower, and apparently what they did was replace the old spark plugs with two new ones (since they didn't know how long my car had been sitting before hand) and blew all the carbon out of the engine and such, hopefully the light stays out :@

The recall was 4206f, and it usually included changing the leading plugs. (Among other things.) If yours is an '06 and was sitting in stock at a dealer, they should have routinely applied the recall.

BTW - part of the pre-delivery prep for a new RX-8 is to replace the spark plugs. Sounds like the dealer was asleep at the switch. At least they woke up quickly.

i think they will give u a new engine. i think its due to unbalance apex seal. u should not ramp the car before 1000km run in period.

cough* discovered the problem.. user error aha, the first day i got it, it was my first stick car and the third time driving stick.. so i over-revved and redlined it in second gear, which tripped the check engine light, and each time i would shift into 3rd gear it would trip the light again, even after they'd reset the computer, so they checked the black box and rebooted the little computer in there, so problem solved thanks everybody for trying to help, and happy driving <3 the car so much.
