Engine Swap

Hey huys I picked up a 2005 RX8 Shinka dirt cheap with a blown engine. Its automatic and I found an engine that was pulled from a manual RX8. Im wondering if its going to work, my manager says it will because he did it back in the day when he had 87 RX7 but im still having doubts.

you can tell your manager he doesn't know **** so he can go suck it, and he can keep his "2nd gen/FC" skills to himself.

it won't work because it's different port configuration, at least not plug and play.

I could've told u to just search but I'm in a "answering stupid noobs question" mood right now.

See that big box up top that says search next to it? Use it.

Well, that was certainly a much friendlier response than just saying "search."

Barth - you'll need to find an engine from an '04 or '05 automatic.

All the work and cost of replacing a 4 port automatic ...
What a waste.

If you have that much money please think about donating to the WCS foundation.

04-05 autos have a 4 port motor. 06+autos have a 6 port motor and all standard trans cars have a 6 port

Ok doing the work yourself helps, indeed.

My point was more to the fact that any kind of money spent on a 4 port automatic is a waste.

What I'm thinking is you'll get the car restored and go .... something like this ...
Holly crap what the hell is wrong with this thing it's slower than a glacier.

Then you are going to logon to the RX8Club and go .. Like WTF guys?

And we are going to go LOL 4 port auto .... fail!

Dude serious .. they are slow

But if you have the time and this project is like gardening and you enjoy messing about and learning new stuff ... have at it

Keep us posted

I completely agree with you but to tell you the truth I never liked Rx8's nor do I do now, I bought this car to fix it and sell to make a buck or two and also to learn something in the process about rotary. Besides the fact that its slow I really like the interior and the way it looks.

This forum is a VERY good source of knowledge, and people really really DO love to help.

But spoon feeding the same questions over and over got tedious, so some brave souls spent hours and hours assembling all of the key information into "stickies" at the top of each forum. 99 times out of 100, spending 15-20 minutes reading the stickies will answer your question.

This leaves people with much more time, energy, and patience to answer new questions or to clarify things you don't understand, rather than answer the same question over and over and over again.

Engine swaps are well documented in the stickies as to what works and what doesn't. Give them a read through, and then ask about the parts that confused you.

Dude its like you read my mind about my 04 auto. The saving grace is its' amazing handling and the sweet look. Gotta say though If I could afford, right now to have a car payment, I would dump it like a used diaper.

Mazda made a horrible mistake by releasing the 4 port "standard power" RX-8 with TORQUE CONVERTER GOD-FORBID 4 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION!

they pretty much ruin whatever reputation they have left ... some people always defend Mazda by saying Mazda's engineer knows best ... mmm yeah, that's a smart decision right there.
