engine ticking noise
last night i started my car and started to work and heard a ticking noise kinda like a lifter stuck or something. the higher the revs the faster the tick. until i don't hear it either too fast or exhaust and engine to load to hear it. the dealer said they make a ticking noise it is common. my car just hit 60000 miles so any suggestions. Just changed the oil today hoping maybe that would fix it. no joy though. please help. also my car when it is super hot outside, has bad engine lag, and the exhaust sounds really crappy and day before yesterday my car died. it is hard to keep running. i have to rev up to like 3000 rpm and then take off and ride the clutch to make sure it doesn't die. again please help!

i know there are no lifters i said it sounds like a stuck lifter. to let you know what it sounds like. i am getting new catback system soon so maybe that is it. and what is a purge solenoid? and a rod bearing? rotaries don't have those do they?

Just a follow up to the engine ticking because i was suffering the same thing. The noise sounded like it was coming from behind my driver side front tire. The ticking was pretty loud and idle and would speed up as the rpm's were raised.
It turns out that the boot had slipped off one of the spark plugs and the noise was the spark plug firing. You could see the spark plug exposed when looking down onto the engine from the driver side. With a long screwdriver, the service writer was able to pop the boot back on and the noise immediately went away. He said that this has happed on several RX8's. It usually stays on tight, but if it doesn't, you may need new plug wires.
Hope this helps.
