engine warm-up: how long do you wait?

I was just curious to see how many people warm up their 8's, and approximately how long do you wait? I can't wait until the temp meter hits the middle!

Just get in it, let it idle for 5-10 seconds and then go, just being easy on it, like nothing over 4k - 4.5k rpms until you get some heat into the motor. You are just wasting gas sitting still for long periods of time.

Perfect description of the perfect method. At first I avoid even as much as 4k and also do not apply full throttle if you can avoid it until it's warm. If you live in an area where this is not possible, sit and let it warm up.
Paul.

Thanks, I was also reading the other thread that provides much information. When I get in my beater car, I just go. So when I switch to the 8 on nice days, I have to think about it.

I wait until the car doesn't run rough. When I first start the car, it isn't smooth tween 1500-2500 rpms, at idle. Takes about a minute to fix itself.

I let it run until the idle drops. ~ 1-2 min. It's too flipping cold in Detroit to wait longer....

I let mine dronp down to the 1K range. Try to listen to the sound of your engine .

Thanks guys. That's what I've been doing as well. At least waiting until the idle settles around 1k, sometimes I wait for the temp gauge to pop up a bit. I was just curious to see what other people did.

I idle mine to 2K with it being a bit rough and I slowly raise the rpm's till I hit 3K and it runs smooth. The Idle will hit 1K and you are good. I havnt had probs. I do not get above 5K till it warms up.

Warmup = 1.5 - 2 minutes.
