FL F1 Racing stage 2 Clutch

ok guys i did the Naughty thing, i just installed one of the on my 8, along with my tein s-techs and SS clutch line.First weird impressions out of the box was the Throw out bearing it looked "CUTE".

i towed the car to my Rotary mechanic and he looked at me and laughed, he said "Why are you buying this crap get an ACT!!"

after i convinced him that i was tight on money and needed the car A.S.A.P for $450 he did the clutch,SS Line, and Tein/shock install

*** on with the review

besides the throw out bearing, everything looks ok. My mechanic at least said it was OK looking LMAO!. The clutch engages very quickly!, and she seems to grab really hard and shifts quick. I cant go into more details about high power shift because i need to break the clutch in.

there is chattering on 4-6 gear, it gets louder if I'm in a higher gear than i'm supposed to be EX: 40MPH I'm at 5-6th Gear a4 3-4k rpm. From what i read this is common in "Racing clutches"

also my clutch Pedal is way!!!! Softer than what it used to be, this happens usually on first. after that every other gear it feels nice and robust!. i will be updating you guys on my progress; no flaming!!! guys, I'M TAKING ONE FOR THE TEAM!!!

*** update***

clutch has been broken in, clutch pedal is firmer; and the clutch is very grabby! first gear takeoff is a bit of PITA because of the aggressive engagement, but overall its good and it has been holding up.

as for the chattering it is still there, but it has reduced substantially. i will record of how it sounds in the cabin.

sounds like its from the transmission not the clutch.
a clutch noise is only related to RPM not gear and speed.

lets hope that's not the case, it would still make that same noise with the OEM clutch

My stage 2 F1 clutch has the same "chatter", has not effected it for over a year now and drives just fine. I usually just keep the RPM's up a little bit and that way I dont even have to listen to the chatter.

I uninstalled my clutch and reinstalled it thinking I mess something up with the install, couldnt find anything and it still looked the same as new, nothing broken.

I have just been waiting for it to go out but 15k later it still feels great, minus the chatter.

i actually have that mindset as well, i needed the car to run so i bought this clutch, i got to say that I'm very satisfied with it and i would recommend it; for those looking for a temp solution for their clutch. As soon as it gives I'm definitely hitting up Adam for an ACT clutch

LOL. Me too. I find that if I am in 3rd gear but at 3000rpm to 3800rpm, I hear this loud rattling or "chattering". Then when I am in 6th gear but also in the same rpm range, I do not hear it.

But anyhow, like what the rest said, the grip is awesome.

I just had mine installed not too long ago, so I have to behave during the wear in or bedding in period.

I must say...just like what others have experience, I experience the same soft non-resistant feeling. Perhaps it is still new.... I sort of like it as a softer clutch pedal pressure is so much nicer during traffic jams.

For now, I have to keep my rpm around the 4000rpm range (but today I was naughty a little and went to 5000rpm).

All in all, I am pretty satisfied with this clutch at this price range.

Don't have to go to Stage 3..it is overkill. Stage 2 is good enuff.

I am using Stage 2. Value for money. http://www.rx8clubmalaysia.com/forum...p?topic=5209.0

That's exactly what I did and it's FANTASTIC! I had to have the clutch bled twice but that may have been the mechanic's fault. It was mildly soft for about 150 and on the floor but since rebleed is perfectly firm and almost back up to stock position. No chatter what so ever and is very quick to tell you that your in to high of gear for slower speeds. Feels like double the acceleration grip.

unless you are nitrous or FI anything more than an OE or OE replacement clutch is a waste of money

I abuse an OE clutch more than any of the street monkeys here ever will ...

i have used the F1 brand in other cars. My DSM had over 400 awhp on a stage 2 from them had over 18k m iles on it when I sold the car and 100's of 5k rpm clutch drops at the track and zero problems. Have the F1 stage 3 in my Legacy GT and is a heavy car and clutch drops at 4k rpm at the track and street driving for 2 years and zero problems. Had ACT in the Legacy GT first and broken spring in 2k miles and would not replace it so saved $300 dollars and purchased the F1 and no failure. I am going to replace the RX8 with a F1 clutch. The only thing that I would recommend that people just don't do any more is make sure the flywheel is surfaced for the new clutch and you will not have any chatter or engagement issues.
