Thanks for merging this. I think the other sources of magnets is a helpful addition!

I am dropping my pan soon for the RE-medy Oil Pressure kit. I currently have SCSI Hard Drive magnets in a circle around the drain plug and on the filter.

I am thinking of putting some magnets in the pan itself but do you guy know if the coating if the magnet itself would come off and possibly affect anything?

You could install the Genuine Mazda Magnet from a Dealer... # F401-17-121

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...&siteid=214264

This one is fixed onto the Oil Pan (INTERNALLY) on a mini pole (part of the oil pan) which locks the magnet through it's center.

Impossible, the SCSI mags I use now have to be removed with a flat head screwdriver when on the oil pan. They are very, very strong.

The chrome plating on these type of magnets is very thin. I've had a couple where the plating came off when I removed them from the drive, from having been glued into place. Once exposed, the material of the magnet is porous and rusts easily and the remaining plating is brittle and chips away. Since the plating is not magnetic, it doesn't stay with the magnet once it chips off.

The Mazda internal Pan Magnet is not a chrome plated type (AFAIK) but a composite type like their Transmission Drain Plug magnets... black/Grey in color.

9K, The Link works for me, you have to "select make" in the drop down...to 'Mazda' and then type in the part number..no dashes.. F40117121...then hit search..

They have changed the name from HP250 to RA250, both have the plastic orange backing..

BE CAREFUL the HP or RA's will NOT Fit on Series 2 RX-8 (different oil filter location), unless you pull the backing off and only use the magnets.....

You can "Just" get away with the install of a SS250 on a Series 2 RX-8.

Series 1's will take all the HP, RA or SS250 magnets.
