To fix or not to fix...
My 8 is finally getting some of the brake squeel that has been talked about. It only happens sometimes and isnt defeaning loud. I know some people have gotten the TSB done on this while others said you should just wait and do the rotors and pads at once. I am afraid if i want, my pads are gonna eat my rotors quicker. Since its not something that happens all the time, I dont know if a dealer will fix it. What should I do?

I, too, was concerned that the original harder brake pads would cause premature wear on the rotors. Since the rotors are not covered by the TSB, I felt I'd be better off to replace the pads now than having to replace both the pads and rotors later. I find no noticable difference in braking with the new pads, and there is much less brake (or rotor) dust generated.

Mine was squealing (23k miles) and I mentioned it last service and the TSB. They said they cleaned the pads and calipers and couldn't reproduce. It's now back to doing it (although less) and I'm really not that concerned about it. The car stops just fine so unless the noise becomes distracting (which it's not) then I'm not going to bother hassling with it. I guess I'm just a low-maintenance owner?

Mines started squealing at 3000 miles or so, and it only seems to be my rear right brake. Wouldn't really call it a squeal though...sounds more like a high pitched hiss. Sometimes it comes on at one brake stomp, and then if I release and reapply, it doesn't. I wouldn't be surprised if the dealership just considered it "normal". And incidentally the TSB at Rosenthal only deals with the front brakes.

Yeah it's really not very loud... and very high pitched - although it only happens under light braking - if I increase pressure it'll stop (although usually just a litttle more pressure than I'd normally use to stop the car) - it's definately coming from the front.
