I had a question, I was at the dealer yesterday for other (brake) problems. So I asked to update my WDS, which he did. When I got it back, he said the most current update he had was for an oil indicator light. So I assume that he hasn't gotten the most recent update that everyone is talking about. But my question is, are all flashes cumulative, i.e. if I get the most current one will it have all previous updates on it, or do you need to go back and upadate it with each one. Becuase I'm pretty sure I have an L flash, but not M, so would the flash I got yesterday include the M or would I need to go back and specifically ask for it. Thanks

I hit send right before I left the house. There were no other responses to cpo's question when I wrote that. What the internet did with it from there...

Thank you so much for this info. I've been on this board for 4 years now I think and never knew about the pre-mix for this car. I've been having the same power loss / rattle sound in hot weather. Today I tried the lucas upper cylinder lube in a full tank and it ran great over two 45 minute (suburbish, not highway) drives in 80 degree weather. Normally the car would feel a little sluggish at the end of the trip and have a rough idle. Today everything definitely felt stronger even at the end of the trip. Also, idle felt much smoother and engine even sounded better (hard to describe, but a little quieter). I haven't got the new flash, but I plan to soon, and we'll see if the pre-mix is necessary in the future, but I'm just glad I don't think I need my engine replaced now, like I was thinking previously. One last thing, could there have been any damage to anything from running the way it was for about a year. Had several huge bouts of power loss with that really loud marbles in a can clanging sound, but improved with cooler weather. I'll have to see how it is after a few more tankfulls, but it feels 100% better now.

Anyone think this flash will result in a recall?
The stalling and power loss issue could be considered a safety issue by the NHTSA and thus force Mazda to issue a recall. In that case, everyone affected would get the flash at no charge.

there is never a charge for a flash. there is currently no news about a recall on the NHSTA website. last recall it was there months before the letters went ou to owners and a couple a weeks before it showed on mazda's site.
ive taken sevral thousand mile trips into cali in late summer and never had this issue and im an early built car.

should we consider this flash to be the "S" flash, since the latest (before) was "R"
:o
Im just going to wait a little bit like at least a month, because dealers are SLOW. :-D
(I got all the service bullentin ready ... hehe)

I will go home tonight and look up what is was called, specifically. But I can tell you this, my idle is about 250 RPM higher, which based on what the new flash does in conjunction with the other change for more oil added during operation, I assumed that the update I got, was one in the same with this one. I could be wrong, but I am not wrong about the idle RPM change. I noticed it about 1/2 mile from the dealership, it was that obvious. I have not had any of the power outage problems like swoope, so I can't relate to that, or tell you that I no longer have that issue. I will look it up when I get home.

A friend here in Phoenix just got it done on Saturday, so I'll have to see what his results are and post them up here.

Just went for a fill up and did the pre-mix for the first time. Haven't had any issues but wanted to give it a try. Used a flotool on the quart bottle and no drips, no mess at all.
One thing that I noticed since I had to spend a minute looking at the filler area. The filler gets pretty dirty so I wiped it clean with the paper towels the station provides. Just wondering if all the dirt built up on the filler lip is the cause of some of the filler cap CELs that people get.

Hey everyone,
Wow, my first post after reading for so long. I got the new flash this past weekend. I'm still no doubt running on the PCM reset as it was explained to me by MazdaManiac that it takes up to 3 drive cycles to get the system back into normal operation.
Initial driving was very nice as the car felt slightly more responsive than before. I was able to take it on a 30 mile cruise right after the work was done as I was running around with AZMC all day. Either the increased power is because the PCM was reset or cause the added oil increased compression. Either way I was happy with the results. I haven't had any problems with idle with the A/C or any cruise contol jerkyness either so I can't say one way or the other if those issues have been corrected.
I did notice this morning that it ran at about 2,500 RPM's when starting cold and it dropped to about 2k but ran a bit longer than in the past. Anyway, I think it's worth the trip to the dealer. If they don't have it or don't know about it better tell them to get a clue cause I'm sure a lot of 8 owners are gonna want this.
