Fuel Filler Cap

Has anyone heard or has had done the Open Recall MSP13 Fuel Filler Cap? I did a search on this forum and could not find it, I didn't find it at the finishlineperformance.com either. Well I just brought my car in for a clutch/ transmission problem check up, and the service person added this recall as part of my service. She said it's because some owners are having their CEL lights come on due to a problem with the fuel filler cap. She said the recall just came up about a month ago.

Not sure yet. but it does sound like it. She mentioned something about gas evaporation, and the CEL lights going on. I barely took my car to the dealer today, and they won't be able to do any diagnosis until Friday morning, and i have a feeling that it'll be there for the weekend if they do any type of work.

Do a forum search on code P0455. That's one of the codes that a loose gas cap can cause, and there are some very informative threads on how the evaporative system works and what the deal is with the gas cap.

I got that code a couple of weeks ago. R&R'd the gas cap, cleared the code with a scan tool, and it hasn't been back. It would be cool if the recall is officially out before I bring Zoomy in for his next oil change.

My CEL has been going on and off over the last couple of months. I replaced my fuel cap with the following product: http://www.autosportcatalog.com/index.cfm?fa=p&pid=4044

Haven't had an issue since installing the new cap. You can't beat this product. For $15 you don't have to ever mess with the cap again. No gas smell on your hands and no stock cap banging against the side of your car when you refuel.

This should be official....

Well this recall was the first thing on the my work order sheet that the service dept. printed out for me. It was #1 on the list, description: Perform Open Recall MSP13 Fuel Filler Cap.

You guys rock! I've paid 4 visits to the dealer since 6/06 on the CEL and they've been stalling repair saying they have to go thru a checklist and "blah, blah, blah". Just read your messages above, quoted the MSP13 filler problem in language they're used to and I get an appontment to correct the problem. This forum is GREAT and its readers' responses invaluable....THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Interesting item. I haven't seen an AutoSport catalog for a while and had not seen this item.

I've had two issues with the gas filler/fuel vapor recovery system, both of which triggered the CEL. The small pump that is involved in the vapor recovery diagnostics failed under warranty, and I needed a fuel filler cap. Fortunately, I was paying the $50 deductible on my extended warranty for some other repairs, same service visit, so the $54 filler cap cost me NADA.

I'll need to remember the "no hands" filler adaptor the next time I see yellow flashing in the instrument cluster.

My "owner's" page on the MazdaUSA web site now lists, under Recall Warning, "Fuel Filler Cap / Mil Illumination (p0455" with a date of 12/18/2006. Can't say when that first appeared, since it's not like I visit that page very often. Clicking on the item (it's a link) yields no further information.

New gas cap will be very cool. I wonder if I'll get a choice of color or style.
